Ravensthorpe Reservoir
Rod average 6.2 (Opening weekend)

The first three days of the new season at Ravensthorpe have seen some excellent sport for both bank and boat anglers. The star fish of the show was a 12lb 10oz Rainbow taken by Richard Cooper. Richard fished the Coton End with a Pitsford Pea on a Di3 line. He also caught a superb overwintered Rainbow of 6lb 10oz. The rod average for the first three days of the season was 6.2.

James Day connected to a rather large Pike whilst pulling a minkie. This mighty specimen weighed in at 30lb and was safely returned to the water.

The bank anglers had good sport off the West bank platforms fishing the same methods as the boat anglers.

Opening Day itself started bright, cold and frosty. However, conditions improved in the afternoon and a healthy rod average of 4.7 for the day was achieved. The best fish on Opening Day was taken by Jack Simpson with a fine Rainbow of 6lb 2oz, caught with a GRHE from a boat. Boat angler Mr Kapp caught a 6lb fish. Angus McFadgen had sixteen fish to the boat and returned a 5lb plus Rainbow. His fish were caught with orange blob and Pitsford Pea on a Di5 line. Mitch Brown and Ade Greenough had 17 fish to the boat.

Bank anglers found conditions a bit slower but Platforms did catch in small numbers.

Pitsford Water
Rod average 6.9 (Opening day)

Pitsford Water opened its doors on Saturday 28 February. Anglers enjoyed a great day’s fishing despite the wind and cold. Both bank and boat anglers took bag limits full of fit, fighting Rainbows. The rod average for opening day was an outstanding 6.9.

Gavin Ferni, aged eleven years, boat fished alongside his Grandfather. Gavin caught his first ever trout, a lovely Rainbow of 2lb 4oz. The fish took an orange lure. Another Gavin, this time Gavin Layton, had a great morning catching his eight fish limit for over 17lb. Gavin fished a floating line and a bloodworm pattern including a fine overwintered fish of 3lb 8oz from the bank along Northfields.

Gary How and Mark Searle had a great day boating over 40 fish using Di 5’s and various lures and blobs.

Lloyd Chantrelle and Neil Young had a similar day in a boat taking 16 fish and returning many more.

Long standing season ticket holder Terry Pancoust, of Northampton, won Gold at Pitsford’s Open House on Saturday 21 February. This pre season event was very well supported. One of Terry’s 2014 season ticket returns was pulled out of the hat to win him a Gold season ticket to fish the new season for free.
