The latest Abu Garcia Wychavon Championship qualifier, fished from 6pm till 9pm, was a match with a difference as EDAA match secretary Andy Butlin had pledged £900 of his own money before a name was even taken!

With a guaranteed £500 prize for the winner, places were snapped up quickly and 50 competitors meant Andy thankfully wasn’t out of pocket come match day!
The main beneficiary of the big payout was match winner Tony Bench (Shakespeare) who didn’t fancy his draw at Peg 58 at all at the start. It’s a peg which rarely wins even a section prize so with nothing to lose, Tony set about it in a very positive fashion by loose feeding two pints of casters just down the nearside ledge and laying on with a lobworm underneath a 2g float. A 4lb tench was added to with perch and two good eels for a 10-13-0 total.
Second spot and £200 went to Pete Morris (WB Clarke) with 10-10-0 of small chub and perch from Peg 52. Third, winning £100 was Tim Noakes (Bait Box) with 7-13-0 of chub from Peg 35 just below the Isborne confluence. Fourth and winner of the top zone was Trevor Chalk (Sensas Portway) with 6-13-0 of feeder caught perch and eels from Peg 24 and fifth, winning the bottom zone, was Dave Harrell (Match Fishing/ Kamasan Starlets) with 5-14-0 of small chub, skimmers and roach on pole fished hemp from Peg 49.
