The popular Drennan Knockout Cup has an increased prize fund next year thanks to the generous backing of leading tackle manufacturer Drennan.
The Oxford based company has been delighted with how well the 2009 competition, which is exclusively organised by Match Fishing magazine, has gone and the prize fund has now been increased to a whopping £8,500.
Company owner Peter Drennan said: “We are delighted to be associated with this competition as it’s a true test of all round skills. The team at Match Fishing did a superb job organising the 2009 event and I’m certain the 2010 competition will be even more keenly contested.”
Match Fishing editor Dave Harrell said: “When I created this competition I had a vision that one day we’d have a top end sponsor and that happened last year when Drennan agreed to back it. Now the prize money has been increased and I’d like to say a big thank you to Peter Drennan for his support. This is an event that every top match angler in the country wants to win and it’s a competition I’m really proud of. My next aim is to get each round on television as I think it would make for great viewing and give the chance for our top match stars to become real celebrities as each round goes by.
Current champion Simon Fry said: “Its great news about the increased sponsorship and I’ll be going flat out to try and become the first angler to win the competition twice!”
The competition gets underway again in May when the top 100 match anglers in the country go into battle for a place in the 64 peg second round. From there the competition takes on an F.A.Cup format with 32, then 16, then eight, then four and finally a two man final.
Full details of the 2010 competition will be published in Match Fishing magazine and on the magazine’s website: www.matchfishingmagazine.com
