Angel of the North Catch & Match Report to Jan 15th 2007

Wind wind and more wind with some heavy rains overnight has changed daily the fishing tactics Required. All lakes still producing exceptionally well for regulars, as water temp is averaging 7 deg, very unseasonable temps for time of year.

Wind has predominately been W or SW therefore producing good catches, and barometer has been favourable as well.

Bassetts still producing well, tactics, choice of peg, and choice of tackle is important. Best catch total 31 fish in a day. Great for bad weather days and gusty windy days

Bowes, Carp being caught with some pegs doing better than others depending on warmer weather has produced some good numbers.

Lookout- some excellent catches have come out considering it is Jan,  and the wind conditions, Saturday in adverse wind &  gusts most anglers had average bag’s which were estimated to 80 lb of fish, Ray Laing fished pole at 9 meters, 0.5g carpa float, 18,  911 hook, dripped fed Angels 3mm Pellets,  Fished corn on hook,  had 35 carp average 2lb, 2 Golden tench, 2 Tench 3lb and silvers.

Best hook baits maggot, sweetcorn, worm  and mussel doing well even expander pellets working with warmer water temperatures at 7+ deg.
Fish feeding as if it is March rather than Jan

Junior Club members now have a choice of doing an ONC in Angling and the Environment which the NFA have produced. It is an excellent qualification recently updated and covers all aspects that the new generation of junior anglers will need to learn to become very competent anglers and hopefully the future generation of coaches and who knows possibly match anglers or even an international or two,  who will then encourage more people into our great sport.

Open Matches have been cut to Saturdays only until March as we expected more adverse weather –suppose it will come yet.

However we are having a Saturday and Sunday this week.(20th & 21st Jan) due to requests.
