TAMWORTH window cleaner Damien Jones smashed the River Anker chub record when he slipped his landing net under this 6lb 12oz brute.

Fishing a club-controlled stretch of the river in swollen conditions near his home town with a home made boilie down the edge, Damian missed a bite first cast.

He went straight back in and the fish took so aggressively it almost pulled his rod in before he could grab it.

The fish took a 14mm boilie made from simple ingredients you can buy in any corner shop. The same mix has accounted for carp to over 30lb for the 23-year-old this season. Damien’s previous best chub of 5lb 6oz came from the Coventry Canal.

Damian was fishing with Sean Allison of the Tamworth Specimen Group, who reveals how to make the mix in the January issue of Total Coarse Fishing magazine, which is out in December.

Sean said: “It’s just an incredible fish to the Anker – way, way bigger than any chub anyone has heard of from the venue before. We reckon the previous river best went 6lb 4oz and that was a one-off. Even more incredibly, it was quite empty as many chub are at this time of year. It will easily go 7lb later in the winter.”
