COVENTRY’S Jon Arthur set a new record for the Hankat AS section of the Walsall Canal after drawing what even he admits was a flyer in the Warwickshire Winter League Practice.

UK Chamsp winner Jon arrived to find roach exploding out of the water all over the place trying to escape the attentions of a number of hungry pike which made fishing for the roach on the pole with bloodworm and joker almost impossible.

So he switched to single caster in the hope of latching into some better fish the predators would leave alone, and went on to bring 12 skimmers from 1-2lb to the net for a 19-9-0 total.

It was a great match with another 28 weights over 8lb and only 22 of the 74 strong field failed to break 6lb.

In second was Wolverhampton‘s Mark Derry (Dams & Lock) who included two small tench in his otherwise roach net for 13lb 8oz. From the same team and in third place was Darren Lewis from Hinckley with a 13lb 4oz net of small skimmers and roach.
