The fourth round of the Barston Masters produced a big match weight for the venue in the shape of a 123lb bag to Swann Baits rod Baz Byrd.

On a day when the levels were very high following days of rain, Baz drew a fancied area when he pulled peg 18 out of the hat. And he certainly made the most of it by fishing The Method at range to catch F1s, skimmers and carp throughout the match for a stand-out 123lb.

It really was a good day in the event sponsored by Halkon Hunt, Greys Prodigy and Bagem and run by Lee Taylor, as second placed Steve Daily also topped the ton mark.

Steve was in an unfancied area on peg 103, and though he fished the same technique as Baz, he fished it very differently indeed on the pole line to take skimmers, F1s and carp to 16lb for 102lb. Jason Shirley was third from peg 2 on the riverbank, fishing The Method at 50 metres.

“The lake in general fished well with weights coming from all areas,” said Lee Taylor. “Goo pole and feeder weights were recorded, which was nice, to see and shows the fish are moving around a lot more now!
