Over 5000 rare Crucian Carp are now making Cheshire ponds in Warrington, Winsford and Northwich their home after being stocked by the Environment Agency.

Stephen Cartledge, Environment Agency Fisheries Officer, said: “Crucian Carp are becoming an endangered fish across the country. In order to give these fish the best chance of survival we chose ponds that would allow to them flourish around Cheshire.”

The chosen ponds are, Norcott Pool near Warrington, Sandiway Small Lake, Winsford, Woods Meadow, and Whatcroft Pool, Northwich.

Stephen continued: “This restocking project is a great example of how the Environment Agency invests the money generated from rod licence sales back into improving angling and protecting and boosting rare species.”
