It was most definitely a sunny Sunday for two fine young anglers, Dave Smith and Mark Williams of Southam, who stepped out into the sunshine at Dog Lane this weekend for the final round of the six match Silvers Pairs Series. Already assured of winning the series, and picking up £312 of the pot, by virtue of their earlier efforts the two were still determined to win the days match but alas the luck at the drawbag ran out for one of them, with Dave drawing the less favoured area of the pool at peg 25. Partner Mark drew Peg 5 and managed 10lb 11oz of roach and small chub for 2pts whilst Dave scratched for 2lb 2½oz and 9 pts.

The series was theirs but the days match went to another dynamic duo in father and son pair Keith and Lee Taylor from Coventry who gave everyone an excellent display of up in the water fishing for silvers on caster. Both adopted the same tactics from the off but it was Lee who found himself on the fish amassing a solid weight of mixed silvers for 21lb 11½oz from peg 10 and top weight of the day and series. Dad could only find 16lb 13½oz of quality roach and skimmers from peg 30 but it was enough to secure the section win and 1pt.

There were other notable weights from around the pool, Jake King from Rugby was chasing the Taylors with 15lb 1½oz at peg 28, Rich Wills on peg 2 was only a Billy Perch away from knocking Mark Williams off his with a weight of 10lb of solid roach. Dick Ashby on peg 19 and Clive Griffin on peg24 both landed a Perch a piece which were pushing 3lb.

All in all it was a delightful series to run and take part in with a great bunch of anglers and some fine breakfasts and good hospitality provided by Nickii & Quintin from The Bridge Pub.
Thanks too to Owner Eddie Whitehead for keeping the pool open through the winter and providing us with excellent winter sport.
