Len Riding and friend John Seeley from Merseyside were over to Ireland and Melview Lodge for their annual fishing trip, the weather at the start of their holiday was not the best for fishing.

With the weather very bright and flat calm by mid day they decided on 04:15 starts in the morning to try and target the fish while feeding on their prebait that they had prepared the night before.

The first few days at the venue produced a few bream, skimmers and lots of roach to feeder tactics. On the venue they were fishing there was some evidence that the bream were ready to spawn, so it was decided to fish at a closer distance to try and target the tench.

This proved to be productive for them as they managed some very nice tench, skimmers and roach.

Kevin said: “I was determined to try and get them a nice catch of bream before returning home. So it was out with the big mixing bath for the pre-bait and after onto the boat to put it in at a venue. I thought would produce for them, as it was their last day I decided to have a fish with them that day and brave the 03:30am start.

What a day it turned out to be for them, producing 272 lb of bream and we never included the roach. It was also a good day for me catching 104lb of bream. A good week and great company, thanks guys and see you next year.”
