For just about the first time this year, conditions were actually summery for the Larford Fish O Mania Qualifier.

However, that kicked the carp into spawning mode and for many they had better things than feeding on their mind.

Things weren’t going too well for eventual winner Ian Giddins for the first couple of hours on Match Lake peg 54, but they moved in big time in the last hour with fish to 12lb boosting his weight to 121-3-0.

Danny Elm switched between pole and wattle on peg 8 on Arena for carp to 15 lbs for 103 lbs 9 ozs and second place. Richie Hull weighed in 100 lbs 3 ozs for third with James Dent in fourth with 99 lbs 4 ozs.

As seems to be becoming a pattern, there were a lot of no shows (38) with only 92 anglers fishing, a worrying new trend for the event.

The Angling Trust would like to offer their appreciation to everyone at Maver Larford Lakes for their help on the day.

The next Fish ‘O’ Mania qualifier will be fished at Woodlands Lakes at Thirsk, North Yorkshire on Saturday 11th June.
