The 4th Annual Merseyside County Championship took place on Saturday 26th of July at Newbridge Farm near Kirby, Merseyside. Two teams entered in what would be a straight angler to angler fight to the finish. Last year’s winners Matrix Tameside would fish against Lymm Angling Club.

The day itself saw high temperatures and high pressure, fish were bubbling on the surface meaning most anglers were adopting a shallow approach. The lake itself is a 30 peg rectangular lake with a central island.

Most pegs have stick ups against the island but one angler taking advantage of a bear island was Kristian Jones on A1 who fished a small method feeder tight to the island to catch small carp up to 2lb.

Another angler starting well was Lewis Burrows who managed to catch a string of fish within the first hour to give him a great start. As normal in these conditions fishing backed off after the first 90 minutes as fished moved around and wind direction changed to suit Josh Lyon who began catching well and added 10 fish to his net while others struggled another angler who was taking full advantage was Sean Mulligan who fished his two margin swims to add larger fish to his net.

In the end Kristian Jones pulled away as individual winner with a good last hour catching shallow, second was Sarah Taylor who had caught well on the method as well as adding fish on her shallow line and third was Sean Mulligan who was one fish short.
On the team stakes it was very close until the end, which Matrix Tameside taking the first two sections and Lymm AC taking the next two, Tameside took the fifth which meant Lymm had to take the last section to pull it back, so it was tense when on the last weigh in.

Tameside managed it with 8 (lowest point wins) points with a total weight of 259lb 13oz against 10 points and 173lb 11oz.

Thanks to Matrix Tameside and Lymm Angling Club for taking part and Thank You to Newbridge Farm for hosting the event.
