FOLLOWING the success of the inaugural Ivan Marks Memorial Match on the Welland last year it has been decided to run a second memorial match on a river. The Witham was one of Ivan’s favourite venues and the second memorial match will be fished on the Witham at Kirkstead on Sunday 24th September.
The Witham Joint Anglers Federation has kindly donated the pegs for this match and the pegging fees will be donated to the charity along with any other monies raised.
The HQ for the match will be at the Kings Arms, Kirkstead, where refreshments will be available and the draw will take place from 8-15am, with fishing from 10am to 3pm.
The pegs will be along the roadside stretch with anglers able to park behind their pegs.
Negotiations are underway to secure some sponsorship for the match and trophies will be on offer.
Local anglers say that September will be the best time for a match on the Witham and the Environment Agency have been asked to cut the weed before the match
Over four hundred anglers fished this match last year and a good entry is anticipated.
Tickets are £15 all-in and they are now available from Frank Butler, 14 St Andrews Gardens, Lincoln, LN6 7UQ (tel: 01522 534174).
