The latest round of Fish ‘O’ Mania qualifying saw anglers turn their attention to the Essex bagging mecca which is Colemans Cottage. Eighty anglers were confronted with humid, changeable conditions which meant that the anglers who chopped and changed reaped the rewards.

Leading the pack and qualifying for the second year running was local angler Jason Collings (MAP). Jason drew fancied peg 1 on Wood Lake and made the most of it to take 208lb of carp and F1’s. Jason switched between pellet shallow and maggot over groundbait in the margins to take fish to 11lb.

In second place was Pemb Wrighting (Daiwa Dorking) who also drew peg 1, this time on Stepfield Lake. Pemb amassed 131lb of Carp and F1’s and caught most of his fish tight across dobbing either pellets or worms.

Finishing third was Marc Rodger from Grimsby who caught 129lb 8oz in the five hours. Marc drew peg 5 on Wood Lake and focused his attentions on fishing down the edge with pellet shallow.

In fourth spot was Ben Townsend from Peterborough who drew next to Marc on peg 4 Wood Lake and caught 120lb 8ozs and rounding off the top five was Chris Kelly from Lowestoft, amassing 118lb 4oz from Wood Lake peg 36.

Thanks must go to Gerry and his team for hosting another great contest. Our next qualifier is at The Oaks Fishery on Saturday, 3rd June, and as usual tickets may be available on the morning to Angling Trust members.
