Competition was fierce at Makins Fishery as 135 anglers made their way to the Midlands match angling mecca.

With bright, still conditions the lake’s resident carp proved tricky to tame, however up in the water tactics proved crucial to the contestants making up the frame.

First place and qualifying on the day was Coventry-based angler Jason Redgrave (Maver Gold Dynamite) who drew peg 15 on Lake 1 for a winning weight of 104lb 8oz.

Jason, a Fish’O’ Mania regular, managed 12 sizeable carp, which were nearly all caught shallow fishing with 8mm pellet.

Runner-up Perry Stone from Chertsey, London amassed a very respectable 95lb over the five hours on Lake 2, peg 15, catching big carp to 12lb on the pellet waggler.

Third spot went to Przemek Solski who drew Lake 5, peg 35. The London-based builder fished pole and pellet for his 91lb that was made up of carp to the 10lb mark.

Matthew Marshall weighed in 87lb 4oz for fourth place and completing the top five was Craig Jones with 86lb 10oz

Thanks to Alan and his team at Makins for hosting the qualifier. The next qualifier is at Tunnel Barn Farm on Saturday, 6th May. You can still book tickets online for this event and there may also be some tickets available on the day for Angling Trust members, so please make yourself known to Mark Treasure on the morning.
