The latest Angling Trust RiverFest qualifier took place on the River Don at Sprotborough on Saturday 27th August with 60 competitors battling it out for their grand final places.

The river had a slight tinge of colour and a little pace due to Friday’s rain which though welcome did also cool the water temperature several degrees.

Overall the venue fished well with eight double figure weights and over 9lb needed to win a default 10 peg section.Individual winner on the day was Kev Hall (Champions Bait) with 24lb 2oz from Earth Centre A19 comprising 14 good skimmers on groundbait feeder with mainly double caster hook baitIn second place and also qualifying for the final was Will Freeman (Preston Innovations), with 17lb 1oz from C 49 at Sprotborough a net of smaller skimmers and perch again on groundbait feeder mid-river with single fluoro gozzer hook bait.

Third place and just 3oz short of qualifying was Sam Merry (Shakespeare Bait Tech) who drew C 60 the downstream end peg on the Sprotborough zone who had one decent bream and skimmers on groundbait feeder and red maggot.In fourth place and taking the final qualifying spot on the Wye at Hereford was Phil Stevenson from Conisborough with 13lb 11oz from the Viaducts, who caught skimmers on the feeder and three dead red maggot hook bait.The next RiverFest qualifier takes place on the River Severn at Bewdley on Saturday 3rd September.
