A fantastic day’s barbel fishing on the Warwickshire Avon was topped off with a cracking double figure fish for Julian Davies.

Targeting a stretch near Stratford, Julian adopted a straightforward maggot feeder approach. He had been told that the barbel in the stretch averaged around 3lb, but his first went 7lb with the session topped off with a personal best of 10lb 3oz. In all he landed a dozen barbel for nearly 100lb.
“That was the best day’s barbel fishing of my life,” Julian told Total Coarse Fishing magazine. He also had a rod out for zander on which he caught two double figure river pike.
