New fish pass helps transform the Upper Derwent
A new fish pass built by the Environment Agency at historic Calver Weir on the River Derwent has been completed at a cost of £165,000. On Friday 5 March 2010 it carried water for the first time offering fish a route up the river beyond the weir. The fish pass is part of a wider project to restore the weir....

























Fishy Christmas stockings scale new heights in West Midlands
The Environment Agency revealed today that the early Christmas present of fish from the Environment Agency’s Calverton Fish Farm near Nottingham last month to re-stock the Rivers Trent and Tame and other West Midlands waters reached a grand total of 95,500 fish....

November is often a wet month but this year it was exceptionally so - taking the Country as a whole it was the wettest November for 58 years as the month saw 8.5 inches as against the previous highest of 7.5 inches in 1951. This, however, totally belies what happened in Cumbria during November - where two to three times this amount fell....

Members of parliament are being urged to tell fisheries minister Huw irranca-Davies, that Britain’s recreational sea angling industry is in danger of being “smothered by the restrictions and rules of management regimes” that are really only intended to control the European commercial fishing industry....
