An angler who only took up fishing three months ago has landed a double figure tench from a private Oxfordshire lake.

Phil Radbourne fooled the 10lb 2oz fish of a lifetime on feeder fished double red maggot after a long spell of blanks at the water with fishing pal Martin Giles.

He fished a 2oz open ended feeder just over a ledge, the feeder packed with Dynamite Silver X groundbait, hemp, loose maggots and corn, to beat his personal best by a massive 8lb.

“It was getting to the stage of the tackle going for sale on E-Bay as we had several weeks of no action,” explained Martin, who landed an eight-pounder in the same session. “You can imagine how smug he looked for the rest of the day that he had caught a fish of a life time in just a few months of fishing.”

Phil wins a specimen tench award in Total Coarse Fishing magazine’s Korum Challenge competition.
