REPORT

MOLANDS    The milder weather saw the carp starting to have a go and the highlight was a 21lb 8oz mirror caught by Gary Lakin in last Wednesday’s open.  Gary fished a popped-up piece of bread punch fishing tight to the far bank on the lead to catch this and he won the match adding a further eight fish between 4 and 9lb.  F1’s showing on most pegs with pole and pellet working best although there were also a few caught on ground bait feeder with pinkies or red maggot.  The best areas have been pegs 1 – 8, 21 – 29,
43 – 48 and 56 – 60.

GEARYS   Popped up bread also working on Gearys picking up the odd carp and fish to over 15lb were accounted for on the method over the Christmas holiday.  Skimmers also showing with nets to 20lb on either long pole with pellet or maggot or ground bait feeder with paste or red maggot.  Best pegs have been 7 – 15, 29 – 31 and 36 – 38.

LITTLE GEARYS   Fishing steady with F1’s being caught all around the pool.  Nets between 20 – 30lb are featuring at the moment.  Long pole between 11 – 15 metres with pellet over micros is the top tactic with a small method feeder tight to the island a good alternative.  Best pegs are 9 – 15, 21, and 24 – 27.

GRATUITIES   Fished quite well since the mild spell with carp to 6lb, plenty of tench between 1 – 3lb, crucians, skimmers and the odd big chub or perch also showing.  Best tactics have been pole and pellet down the edge or the end pegs on straight lead and bread on the middle pegs.

CRESCENT   The top end of the pool is fishing best with the pellet fished across to the reeds on the far side.  Carp to 8lb with plenty around the 2 – 4lb range coming to this.

WILLOW   Sport has picked up with plenty of roach, skimmers and small perch being caught around the pool.  The reed beds are best for carp with fish from 1 – 3lb coming to pole and paste.

ANNIVERSARIES   Good nets of silvers coming from the point at the far end or off the lawn area with pellet or caster fished over ground bait have worked best.
