FISHING REPORT – WEEK ENDING 18/3/12

Last week 112 rods caught 471 fish for an average of 4.20.

The fishing just got better with all the pools in fine form at the moment.

The best fish of the week was an 8lb 3oz rainbow caught by Alan Pitt of Birmingham who was fishing from the bank of Cocks Close and he tempted it on a Cats Whisker Lure. Ray Inman of Birmingham caught seven fish from a boat on Cocks Close including samples of 6lb and 5lb and these all fell to a black Fritz pattern. Richard Huckvale of Coventry fished catch and release on a boat from Cocks Close and he caught 23 fish including four estimated at 6lb and he took all of his fish on a Hot Taddy Cat fished on an intermediate line.

On the members’ pools, Nick Howarth of Nuneaton fished from a boat on the Great Pool and caught seven to 4lb on black and white Lures on an intermediate line. John Bartlam of Atherstone caught seven rainbows to 4lb from the Park Meadow pool and again black and white Lures accounted for his catch.

The best patterns are Cats Whisker, black Tadpole, white Fritz, Damsel Nymph, white Minkie, black Buzzer, Diawl Bach and pearly P T Nymph.

Cocks Close is fishing best along the high bank and around the middle trees. On the Great Pool, the fish have moved into the deep water and off the dam wall and up to the middle island is best. Park Meadow is best around the dam wall area and just out from the boat jetty is the hotspot on Hall Pool.

The Fishery will hold its Spring Open bank competition on Saturday 14th April. This year Shakespeare fishing tackle has kindly sponsored the event and an array of tackle will be up for grabs. Entry cost is £25.00 which will include a two fish ticket and catch and release.
