REPORT

It has been a very quiet week on the fishery with only a few pleasure anglers braving the cold.  The fishery froze over on Friday and apart from a few on the Open on Saturday who broke the ice to fish, there were no anglers on the lakes.

Earlier in the week pleasure anglers fished Gratuities and found small carp and crucians prepared to have a feed with catches to 20lb reported.  Little Gearys produced fish all around but catches were a lot lower than of late and double figure catches of F1’s were best on red maggot, caster or expander pellet but feeding very little at all.  Willow which fishes well in the winter only fished on pegs 5 and 6 next to the reed bed with most anglers struggling for small roach on the other areas.  Carp and F1’s were caught on the reed beds with pinkies or red maggot over micros the best approach.  On Siblings, the reed beds again were the best area producing catches of roach and skimmers with the odd carp.  Big Gearys was a struggle apart from the middle of the high bank where the skimmers are shoaled up at the moment and pole fished caster is working best on this area.

FISHING REPORT – WEEK ENDING 21/11/10

Last week 77 rods caught 168 fish for an average of 2.18.

There were a couple of days last week when the fish were moving all over Cocks Close giving a spring like appearance to the lake.  The fish were moving to small black Midges and a few fish were being caught to dries such as Hoppers and CDC Emergers.  The best tactic has been to fish Lures on intermediate lines with Cats Whisker, white or black Fritz, black Tadpole, Minkies and Dog Nobblers.

The best fish of the week was an 8lb 8oz rainbow caught by John Clarke of Solihull and this was taken on a Booby on a sinking line from a boat on Cocks Close.  Derek Brookes of Nuneaton had an 8lb 5oz rainbow from the bank of Cocks Close and this came to a Bloodworm pattern.  Ray Inman of Birmingham had a 7lb 8oz rainbow on a Woolly Bugger whilst fishing from a boat on Cocks Close.

On the Great Pool, Andrew Moulder caught four fish including a 6lb rainbow and these all came to a Cats Whisker Lure fished on a floating line.  Gary Cooper of Sutton Coldfield had a five fish catch from a boat on Park Meadow and these all fell to black Lures.

REPORT

MOLANDS    Molands is still fishing with anybody catching double figures doing well in matches.  Skimmers and F1’s the main fish to target with pole fished caster or expander pellet fished long at 10 – 15 metres on the pole.

GEARYS   The high bank remains the best area with pegs 6 – 15 producing decent nets of skimmers along with the odd carp, tench and brown goldfish.  Pellet or caster on the pole or maggot or caster on a small ground bait feeder, are the best approaches.

LITTLE GEARYS    Lots of F1’s showing all around the pool with fish from 12oz – 4lb coming to long pole with expander pellet or chopped worm and caster.  Skimmers, roach and a few bigger carp also being caught with bread punch a good alternative either on the straight lead or waggler.

GRATUITIES    Fished hard through the week but improved at the weekend with two 50lb+ catches taken.  Carp from 1 – 3lb, tench and crucians are the main fish being caught with chopped worm, caster and expander pellet fished on the pole or dead red maggot on a small feeder to the island.  Best pegs are 1, 8, 9, 11 and 15.

WILLOW    Always a good bet in the winter with lots of small carp and F1’s willing to feed.  Pegs 1, 5, 6, 10 and 11 have been the best this week with catches to 30lb taken by pleasure anglers on pole, caster or pellet.

ANNIVERSARIES   Hard this week with roach and small carp in catches to double figures coming from the top end of the pool.  Caster or maggot fished over micros has produced the best results.  Best pegs are 1 – 4, 9, 15 and 22.

ALDER/REEDY BAY/FIRST BAY   These small pools are always good for a few bites with small tench, carp, perch and roach coming to maggot or caster.

REPORT

MOLANDS    Molands is fishing very hard at the moment with the fish starting to shoal in tight areas.  The best pegs have been 2 – 8, 19 – 23, 29 – 31 and 44 – 46 with pole fished caster, maggot or pinky the best tactic.  F1’s and skimmers are the main target but a few carp are coming to bread punch or pellet fished on the straight lead.

GEARYS   Like all the pools at the moment, Gearys can be hot or cold.  The skimmers are showing all along the high bank with the middle pegs from 7 – 13 the main area.  Long pole with caster fished over ground bait is the best tactic for these.  Elsewhere a long chuck with bread punch, meat or pellet on the straight lead is producing a few carp to double figures.

LITTLE GEARYS    Slower by this pool’s standard but fish are still being caught from all around with mainly F1’s around the 1lb mark making up the catches.  Caster or maggot fished down the near margin is working with the long pole at 13 – 16 metres also producing fish.

GRATUITIES    Very patchy at the moment with the far side the better bet with carp to 5lb and tench to 4lb coming out to the pole with pellet or a small open end feeder/pellet feeder fished tight up to the island.  Pleasure catches to over 30lb reported in the week.

SIBLINGS    The tench were showing to the few anglers that fished last week with fish to 5lb reported.  The top end of the pool around the reed beds has been the best area.  Best tactic has been to fish worm and caster on the pole.

WILLOW   The hot pegs have been 5 and 6 next to the reed bed with F1’s to 1lb and carp to 6lb the main target along with skimmers, roach and the odd tench.  Pole fished pellet is the best tactic on these pegs with caster or maggot better around the rest of the pool.

ALDER/REEDY BAY/FIRST BAY   These small pools are very good through the winter months and maggot, caster or pellet fished on the float have produced plenty of small carp, tench, roach, rudd and perch.

FISHING REPORT – WEEK ENDING 7/11/10

Last week 132 rods caught 309 fish for an average of 2.34.

The best rainbow of the week was 6lb 9oz caught from Cocks Close by Steve Prentice of Birmingham who is making a habit of catching the top fish.  This was taken on a Gold Head black Tadpole on an intermediate line and was the best of an eight fish catch.  Steven Roberts of Birmingham had a six fish catch from a boat on Cocks Close and the best was 5lb and these all came to Cats Whiskers on a sinking line.

The Packington Fly Fishers held their annual bank contest on Cocks Close on Sunday and the winner was Alec Twaites of Coventry who had five fish to 4lb on a Gold Head Damsel.

On the members’ water, Great Pool, Ray Cramp of Coventry and Malc Randle of Bedworth shared a boat and caught 15 fish between them, all coming to black or white Lures.

Best tactics have been to fish Lures with long tails on intermediate lines with Cats Whisker, black Tadpole, Minkies, white or orange Nomads, Viva and dog Nobblers all catching.

The best areas have been from the old boat jetty round to the far corner on Cocks Close.  On the Great Pool, the fish are being caught around the shallows fishing from the boat into the margins.

REPORT

MOLANDS   Fishing very hard at the moment although fish are being caught all around the pool and top weights are between 20 and 30lb.  F1’s and skimmers giving best chance of sport with long pole and maggot or caster fished over ground bait or a small amount of micro pellets.  Best pegs this week were 2 – 14, 19, 29, 37, 44, 48 and 54.

GEARYS   The high bank from pegs 7 – 15 has been the best area producing 20lb+ nets of skimmers and a few carp.  The skimmers are coming to long pole with pellet or   chopped worm/caster and the carp to straight lead with a teabag fished out to the middle stumps with punched bread or dead red maggot on the hook.

LITTLE GEARYS    Still the most consistent pool with F1’s being caught all around the pool.  Pleasure anglers have enjoyed the best of the action with nets to over 40lb reported.  Expander pellet fished over micros on the long pole has been the best tactic but bread punch or the waggler is also starting to fish.   Best pegs are 7 – 11, 21, 23 and 26 – 29.

GRATUITIES   Produced the biggest catches this week with plenty of carp in the 1 -3lb range coming out to either long pole and pellet or a small method with punched bread, dead maggot or pellet on the hook.  Tench to 4lb also featured in catches this week.  Best pegs are 1, 8, 9, 11, 12 and 16.

ANNIVERSARIES    Chopped worm and caster has been the best approach this week with tench to 4lb, skimmers, roach and small carp.  It is better to fish tight up to the features in each peg with the islands and overhanging bushes on most pegs.

CRESCENT   This small pool has been in good form with carp to 7lb coming to float fished corn or pellet with the swims near the aerator fishing well.

WILLOW   Pegs 1, 5, 6 and 12 are the inform pegs producing carp and F1’s to pole fished pellet, corn or caster.

FISHING REPORT – WEEK ENDING 31/10/10

Last week 119 rods caught 284 fish for an average of 2.38.

The best fish of the week was 14lb 5oz and caught by Steve Prentice of Birmingham who was fishing from a boat on Cocks Close and took it on a black Tadpole fished on an intermediate line and was the best of an eight fish catch.  Jake Froggatt of Birmingham also fished from a boat on Cocks Close and took an 8lb 4oz rainbow which fell to a Montana Nymph.  Roger Inman of Birmingham returned rainbows of 7lb and 6lb from a boat on Cocks Close and these came to a Cats Whisker Lure.

On the Great Pool, Mike Ravenscroft of Kenilworth had a 5lb rainbow which was the best of an eight fish catch and these fell to various Tadpoles fished on sinking lines.  Peter Kelly had a 5lb 8oz rainbow from a boat on Park Meadow pool which was caught on a Cats Whisker Lure.

All of the pools are now fishing well with Lures fished on intermediate or sinking lines becoming the favoured method.  Cats Whisker, black or white Nomads, Minkies, black Tadpoles, Damsel Nymph and Viva are the top patterns at the moment.

The high bank and around the middle willows have been the hotspots on Cocks Close.  On the Great Pool, the shallow water to the left of the boat jetty is best.  Park Meadow is fishing well around the margins and Hall Pool is better towards the dam end.

REPORT

MOLANDS   Pleasure anglers enjoyed the best sport last week with F1’s and skimmers providing the bulk of the catches.  Maggot or caster fished over ground bait or micro pellet, either down the shelf or at 11 – 13 metres has been the best tactic.  The best areas have been 1 – 10, 16 – 21, 29 – 33 and 44 – 48.

GEARYS   Fished hard this week with skimmers providing the best of the action.  The deeper water along the high bank has been the most consistent area producing skimmers to 3lb.  Pole fished caster or pellet has been the best approach with a small ground bait feeder also worth a try.

LITTLE GEARYS    F1’s to 3lb have been showing well all around the pool and on the milder days they have been coming shallow.  There have been catches to over 40lb in matches with pleasure anglers exceeding that.  The best approach has been to fish the pole at 11 – 14 metres with worm, pellet or maggot on the hook fished over micro pellet but only feeding tiny amounts.  Best pegs are 7 – 11, 21, 25 – 29.

GRATUITIES   The fish are now shoaling and if you are on them, good nets of tench and carp are still coming out with pegs 1, 8, 9 – 11 and 15 the hot pegs at the moment.  A small feeder fished to the island or long pole with red maggot, corn or pellet fishing best.

ANNIVERSARIES    The top end of the pool from 1 – 9 has been the best area producing nets of tench, skimmers, roach and small carp.  Caster, worm or maggot are the top baits with long pole the best method.

WILLOW   Pegs 5 and 6 the best for carp with corn or pellet fished against the reed beds with fish to 8lb coming out last week.  Elsewhere on the pool, caster, maggot or small expander pellet fished on the pole has produced plenty of bites from skimmers, roach, F1’s and crucians.

RIVER BLYTHE   The River has been in good form last week with lots of chub from 1/2 lb – 2lb coming out along with roach, perch and dace.  Float fished maggot has produced lots of smaller fish with breadflake best for bigger chub.
