THE organiser of the resurrected Thames Championships says he expects a sell-out field for the big team event.

The historic match is back on this year after a break of five years thanks to the efforts of Peter Turner of Turner’s Tackle and Bait, Oxford.

The big day is Sunday, September 21st, when the water is should be fishing well, and all the big guns are expected to once again battle it out for the huge silver trophy.

The teams of six event is limited to 50 teams and the sections to be used will include Kelmscott, Radcot, Clanfield, Rushey, Tadpole and Chimmidy.

Entry costs £150 per team, including pools, and with 300-peg matches including the Turner 400 on September 7th and The Swan Open on the 14th, there is the opportunity for match anglers to get plenty of practice in before the big one.

Pete said: “Bream or chub will dominate the match on the individual side, but small fish like roach, bleak and gudgeon will probably form the target for the winning team approach.

“The weed’s dying down and the fishing is at its best in late September, just before the first frosts of the autumn.”
