Commenting on the announcement by the National Federation of Anglers, National Federation of Sea Anglers and the Salmon and Trout Association that they are proposing to merge into one body, to be known as the Angling and Fisheries Alliance (AFA), Countryside Alliance Campaign for Angling Director Charles Jardine said:

“We offer a cautious welcome to this proposed new body and hope that this move is not being made simply to attract funding but is borne of a genuine desire to protect and promote angling.
“We trust that the individual angler will be well represented in this merger and, like other angling bodies, will be watching the progress of the AFA very closely.

“We hope to work as closely with the AFA as we do the National Angling Alliance”.
