The Angling Trust’s Youth Flyfishing squad held its first training session of the year at a blustery and cold Rutland Water. The squad was split into two teams for a serious weekend of practice and competition.

On Saturday the two team captains Kieran Bonas and Dom Sheratte sent their team members to various parts of the Reservoir trying to ascertain the best areas and methods for the competition the following day.
Sunday arrived and a third team were added to the mix. The highly successful and experienced Rio Masters kindly came along to offer the team a real challenge, and it was now time to see how much the team had found out in their practice session.
Despite the bitter conditions, Rutland maintained its excellent form and some fantastic catches were recorded. Many of the youth team members caught their 8 fish limits and some of them very quickly. Successful methods were Boobies fished close to the bottom and later on in the day, Buzzers fished on floating lines.
The results saw Rio Masters romping to a convincing victory but with each member of the Masters having a youth team member as a boat partner, some fantastic experience was gained.
The Angling Trust and its Team England Youth Fly fishing would like to express their thanks to Anglian Water for their continued support and also to the boatmen and Rio Masters that helped the weekend be such a great success.
