If there’s a more consistent match angler in the UK than Coventry’s Jon Arthur right now, I don’t know who it is.

Jon has been instrumental in spearheading an unprecedented year for Shakespeare, the Midlands outfit taking the Division One National, the Winter League final, and the recent Match Fishing Team Championships on the Warwickshire Avon, three of the most coveted team competitions in the calendar.

John, who is now editor of Daventry based Advanced Pole Fishing magazine, underlined his talent at the weekend with another big match win, this time in the British Waterways Canal Championships on the Coventry Canal in Coventry between Cash’s Lane (Bridge 2) and Swancroft Road (Bridge 5).

John pole-fished his way to 12-8-0 of skimmers, roach and a tench from peg 50 to finish clear of many of the region’s top canal anglers.

The great thing about Jon is that he’s also superb on commercial fisheries, having won the UK Champs twice in recent years.

In my view, it’s time England manager Mark Downes picked up the phone and ‘blooded’ him….
