WEYMOUTH, a mark with a big reputation and an impressive annual program of international events, has now received a further boost to its world status with the official news of being selected as host port for two world angling championships between 2004 and 2005.
Weymouth and Portland will host the 2004 World Mens and Ladies Shore Championships (26th September to 2nd October 2004) and the 2005 World Boat Angling Championships (9th to 16th October 2005)
Tourism & Entertainment Manager Simon King said: “This is indeed fabulous news for the resort and the angling fraternity of Weymouth and Portland. It makes all the hard work and successful partnerships over the last few years worthwhile.
“Several hundred extra visitors, including international competitors, organisers, supporters and considerable media coverage for the will be a tremendous boost to the resort¹s visitor industry.”
National Federation of Sea Angling Competition Chairman Colin Bond also added: “The National Federation of Sea Anglers Standing and Executive Committee are delighted to announce that Weymouth has been selected to be the British host port for the World Angling Championships in 2004 and 2005. We look forward to continuing our strong partnership to stage what promises to be an outstanding world status event.”
