TF_nick_the_2ndPellet/paste on the deck, or pellet shallow is all you need to fish down Monks. Don’t skimp on bait take plenty!
Then if its a big match hope for a draw on lake 1, the left of lake 2 or peg 113 on lake 3 🙂

ManoliIs it all carp there then Nick, Im told alot of silvers to go at too…? How big are the fish and how deep are the lakes?
-

TF_nick_the_2ndI tend to just fish mostly shallow for the carp & F1s, you will need about 70 fish to do a ton. There is the odd bigger carp to about 8lb in there.
There are lots of silverfish, tench, barbel, ide, skimmers and chub, lots are 8zo to a pound+ so you can catch a big weight of these.
Depths vary on all the lakes from about 4ft to 10ft+ at the top end of lake 2.

TF_nick_the_2ndIf you go back through my blog you can read how I fish the place. Fished about 6 matches there this year.

ManoliIve read the posts on your blog Nick (a good read!), a few questions popped into my head though, You say you put in groundbait at the start with the intention of fishing shallow over the top, do you cup this groundbait in or ball it by hand? Is it an active, fizzy mix or a dead, inert one? And does every one fish shallow as close in as you or do some fish 13-14m out?
Thanks Nick, Gary.

TF_nick_the_2ndThe groundbait I use is a mix of some BCUK stuff I won last year, the GTX and Commercial Green, but any fishmeal stuff will do I reckon. Its mixed up about a hour before the start so will be a bit active. I ball it in by hand and spread it out a bit. The idea is to draw in a large number of fish and then pick of the carp shallow.
This normally goes in around the 7-8 meter mark, I will then fish over the top of it, as the match goes on the carp may back of a little but I can normally catch for the duration of the match at 9.5 meters or less.
As far as I know no one fishes like I do, I dont think they have the bottle to ball it!!
The few I do see going shallow do go out long at around 13 meters but it is not nessesary.
The guys who fish paste on the deck and do well tend not to fish out too far either.

TF_feedernick what do you think of the green.is that the bag with the big g on it.ta

TF_nick_the_2ndThe stuff I have is the BCUK Active Commercial Green stuff. It’s as good as anything else I have used.
It doesn’t have a big G on the pack I think you are confusing it with something else.

Anonymousfeeder the one your talking about is steve ringers groundbaitwith the g on it
theres a lot of negative talk about it from a lot of anglers but i’ve found it a very good mix,and makes a good paste mix also, manoli,
I dont know if nick knows this but i also ball it ,but i use a lot of crushed hemp in my g/b mix as to let it fizz all day and that will also drift up and it takes the carp with it. -

ManoliMonk/Nick sounds like having dry hemp will work well, I remember when I used to fish Lake John for the rudd shallow when I was younger, I’d mix up my usual mix of VDE SuperLake and SuperCup, then add dry corriander Moule and dry crushed hemp, then loose feed casters over the top. Sounds like the same principles apply here.
Thanks for the help lads, your methods sound different to the norm, and I like to try new stuff so Ill give it a few goes and tell you how I get on.
Thanks again.

TF_nick_the_2ndI suspect the BCUK stuff is made up of bread crumb, ground pellet and ground hemp! Before I won the BCUK stuff that is what I was using.
My theory is if you follow the crowd you are only going to catch the same and not beat them……. lol 🙂
