Shakespeare Championship Qualifier
Saturday August 5th
Warwickshire Avon – Evesham Town Waters and Hampton Ferry
64 pegs
Much hard bank work by local anglers after the devastating recent flood, which left a trail of damage in its wake, enabled this fifth qualifying match to go ahead on a back to normal River Avon.
Reigning champion Wayne Swinscoe made it known that he is determined to hang on to his crown with a 21-6-0 catch from Peg 36, two swims below the Isbourne confluence.
Feeding quite heavily with bronze maggots Wayne took chub up to the 2lb mark on double maggot underneath a 3AAA waggler fished from middle to two thirds across.
Second place went to Steve Hutter of Fox Match RAF with 15-13-0 of chub from unfancied Peg 52. Steve tackled the 10 feet swim with a crowquill Avon float and bronze maggots to take fish up to 3lb.
Third place went to the previous qualifier winner Dave Harrell who took 10-9-0 of small fish on waggler and maggot from Peg 5. Fourth was Steve Royle with 8-13-0 of roach from Peg 1 and fifth was Jamie Robbins with 7-12-0 from Peg 6, a catch which included a superb 5lb tench.
