TF_MatchcarpNot a lot of people know this so I am gonna tell you one of the best kept secrets on the Yorkshire circuit – Yes Hayfield do run open matches – You know the one where the Fisho final is fished – I have been on a few lately and a ton doesn’t really win you anything – Trouble is they are not getting the attendances, on a weekend it’s about thirty and midweek less than ten.
I know this place would be mobbed if anyone knew there were matches, the fishing is megga. Some of you will be thinking floating baits and all that nonsense but that has now all been banned and it’s proper methods only.
Contact numbers for booking on the matches are :- Christine on 07789 266196 0r Ron on 07789 266197 ……..
I am gonna keep bringing this thread bttt because we are/I am crying out for a good commercial match and this place is awesome and just needs the word to get around and they will be sell outs I’m sure.
There is also a bank holiday match on the 27th August, 70pegs.
Give them a ring, get down there, bag up and then spread the word. -

TF_AlibongoParticipantwell said matchcarp. these matches are fantastic, the weights needed are mega well put it this way i have had a 3rd with 143lb and 3rd with 108lb and lost the same again foul hooked and mustered a default section with 90 odd. you have so many different choices of methods that if you get bored on one just try another and continue to sack up. hope to see you all there.

TF_MatchcarpRunning this thread both here and coarse, coarse seems to get more hits……..
-
15/08/2007 at 7:55 pm #62952
TF_Big FinnParticipantWhat methods & baits have you been fishing?!?!
What day on the weekend are the matches? Might be able to get 6/7 from our team to fish them.
-
15/08/2007 at 8:41 pm #62953
Tigra Robare they run after the clubbies have gone to the pub still? and are they allowing anglers to drive to the pegs again?
-
16/08/2007 at 5:55 am #62954
TF_MatchcarpThe clubbies finish at the end of August then it’s day matches from then on.
Big Finn I have answered your methods answer on the other thread………
They are allowing anglers to drive to their pegs and are making new drive ways for even better access to all pegs especially the 40s & 50s
-
16/08/2007 at 8:19 am #62955
TF_ballitinParticipantYes we know all about these matches as when we were finnishing at 3-00pm (Clubbies )all of you lot were stood behind our pegs well before the time out was called . If that had happened on a open match there would have been hell to pay. This is not a one off it happened to us before, Guess what it won’t happen again .
-
16/08/2007 at 8:54 am #62956
TF_MatchcarpI think that may be a bit on an exageration Ballit as I know for a fact I would not do that because I wouldn’t like it doing to me ……..
I am surprised too because most of the lads have a pint before the draw but as I say I can’t speak for every body……. I personally do not go down to the lake until after I have drawn my peg.
I am sorry if others have and they should know better but there are good and bad at all levels …… -
16/08/2007 at 9:48 am #62957
TF_AlibongoParticipantim sorry ballitin but i cant buy that mate. i have fished most of them afternoon matches at hayfield and we dont draw until 3pm so usually cant get to the pegs until about 3.15 – 3.30. mind you i havent been there for about 3 weeks so dont know whether the draw has been made earlier with the nights drawing in. if people have been doing this then they should be ashamed!

TF_craigoI like hayfield, have been meaning to fish some of the opens for a while but its the late start that puts me off – after August I may give it a go, but not long after it will be winter league time anyway.
Club matches have a big impact on open turnouts through summer months and thats when some fishery owners could really cash in – if the fishing is good and there was a gaurenteed open venue, the numbers would stay high. I like Lindholme, but don’t like that the open lakes used differ from week to week. A designated open venue is the answer and I think Neil has enough ponds to do it now – by moving around each week you cant possibly compete with the 4-5x a week venue expert andglers – at least you’ve got a chance if your on the same lake week in week out.
I have to agree though matchcarp – hayfield is full of fish and a nice venue

16/08/2007 at 10:55 am #62959
TF_MatchcarpI know there will not be many weeks left of the “Carping Season” but they are quite often the best weeks, given the Autumns we have had recently I can see the Carp on the pole line into November so that should give 8 to 10 weeks easy before the weights start dramatically falling off.
I do want to emphasise though that there are WEDNESDAY opens run on the venue every week and they are of course day matches.
-
16/08/2007 at 1:54 pm #62960
TF_MatchcarpThe draws have remained at 3.00pm.
-
16/08/2007 at 2:08 pm #62961
TF_MatchcarpSo how many more can we boost the attendances by?
Who is goona make one in?
I know as soon as some of you have been you will be telling your mates and before you know it we will have well attended matches…
Would really like to get the Wednesday numbers up and a 50+ pegger on Bank holiday monday 27th August would be good.
-
16/08/2007 at 7:13 pm #62962
TF_GaryBallitin is right. Hayfield is terrible for the evening match lot kicking the day match people off their pegs. Let the clubbies finish their match, weigh-in and pack up in peace!
-
16/08/2007 at 7:14 pm #62963
TF_GaryCracking fishing though!
-
16/08/2007 at 7:38 pm #62964
TF_ballitinParticipantI know I’m right Gary and have at least 25 other anglers to back me up but like you say the fishing very good but there are so many other places that are equally as good and you get treated better ,some are even greatfull of your bookings and it’s these that will be first on our club booking list every time .
-
17/08/2007 at 5:47 am #62965
TF_MatchcarpWell at least you lads get the day matches, we are just taking the crumbs the clubbies leave ;0(
-
17/08/2007 at 7:44 am #62966
TF_AlibongoParticipantwait a minute gary and ballitin, i have carried a couple of elderly club anglers gear back to there cars before setting up myself so we arnt all numpties!! i still cant get my head around how if you finish your match at 3pm and we dont draw till 3pm how you could have someone stood behind you whilst you are fishing? granted every evening match i have had i have had to set up whilst the clubbie is waiting to be weighed in, but we have always had a good chat and i have never felt that they have left the peg jarred off.
-
17/08/2007 at 10:59 am #62967
TF_ballitinParticipantNO now you wait aminute ,don’t you think that 2 clubbies from different clubs who don’t know each other have had the same thing happen to them ,you know when you carried the elderly club anglers back to the cars did you take their tackle with them or had they not pack up yet.
So tell me what time does your match start is it 4-00, because in my eyes that doesn’t give the anglers that are fishing time to pack up and the other angler who is jumping in his peg time to setup aswell,oh and don’t forget the weighing in which has to take place after everyone has packed up and with 2 nets and the size of the lake it takes some doing .all I can say is that some of the anglers must draw before 3-oo with our watches anyway, to be behind our pegs before we finnish at 3-00 with our watch .I know what I saw ,so don’t try to make me out to be a liar!!
-
17/08/2007 at 11:22 am #62968
TF_MatchcarpDon’t want this to become a slanging match – I raised this thread in the hope of giving the open circuit matches some publicity because for whatever reason the angling press have failed to advertise them…….
Bank holiday open on the 27th August…..
Wednesday day open matches……
From 1st September weekend opens daytime…..

17/08/2007 at 11:41 am #62970
TF_AlibongoParticipantBallitin not calling you a liar! yes the elderly angler had finished packin up mate. i just cant understand how anyone could get drawn and end up behind you so quick? mind you i usually dont leave the pub to draw until about 5 or 10 past three. matchcarp i know we dont want any fall outs. i couldnt understand why they arent gettin better turn outs when the fishing is so good and with the veriaty of methods that you can catch on. hope the attendancies pick up, i will be back soon for another play
-
17/08/2007 at 11:52 am #62971
TF_MatchcarpMe too – No one method dominates and it seems to suit all – If we can keep this thread going or raise subsequent ones prior to matches to advertise them I’m sure the attendances will be on the up – Word of mouth will get it around.
Contact numbers for booking on the matches are :- Christine on 07789 266196 0r Ron on 07789 266197 ……..

17/08/2007 at 12:18 pm #62972
mattythe attendances are so bad because i could crack the person on the back of the head on his basket in the next peg with an outstretched arm sat on my basket, thats why. the fishing is half decent but personally i like some space and privacy.
-
17/08/2007 at 1:15 pm #62973
TF_MatchcarpYou must be a pleasure angler then matty, this thread is aimed at matchmen.
-
17/08/2007 at 1:43 pm #62974
mattyabsolutely not mate, ive fished hayfield lakes twice in the last two years in the green un semi finals, in fields of 150+ and qualified two years running for the final. GUESS WHAT ALL ON MAGGOT, wow, not all this floating pole crap and bomb and meat.
-
17/08/2007 at 1:50 pm #62975
TF_AlibongoParticipantwith that number of anglers on the bank matty i have got to agree with you. i was there last friday on the Jacksons corporate match and it wasnt brilliant, but lets be honest nearly every commercial venue in the country the peggin is to close! take larford for example it is the best fishery i have ever been to but you put every peg in and the weights drop dramatically.
-
17/08/2007 at 2:20 pm #62976
TF_MatchcarpI can’t afford maggots…
Floating pole certainly is not a method at Hayfield so please take that one out of the equation, I have seen a very odd attempt at it but they soon realise that one don’t work. What I don’t understand Matty is why you are dissin the place….. Yeah if every peg was in it would be hard but as Ali says so would Larford……. We are usually pegged two together miss one and the weights have been great……
I could understand it if we were talking about that venue down the road at Retford where it takes five matches to make up a ton……. Come on down and try a couple of opens, I’m sure you will change your opinion. -
17/08/2007 at 5:32 pm #62977
TF_neil gCraigo thanks for the complements, but i do not know if you are aware all my Sat and Sunday opens are on the New Oasis Lake and we only have one match a day on all our lakes here .I do not believe in forcing people of there pegs for 3 pm,all matches here are for the day,in other words you can fish your match anytime from 7am till 9pm they are your clubs pegs for the day.You can even stay on and fish pleasure after the match for free.
I only have evening matches on a Friday because i do not have many club matches on this day.Sorry for hijacking your thread Matchcarp, just responding to Craig.

TF_JohnHHow did it fish this weekend Matchcarp? We had a clubbie on Dannies and it was hard. I couldnt get a bite on the pole line or margins but managed a few on the bomb to win our match.
The evening match was on our lake and anglers were behind me whilst I was packing up. As I also weigh everyone in I am often the last off the bank by which time the late match had just about started.
It is not nice having strangers trampling over your peg wanting to set up on your platform whilst you pack up.
That said if it was up to me all of our matches would be held there its fantastic fishing.
Not this weekend alas lots of clubbies packed up and went early, we had the pub to ourselves at 4.15pm.
I think you were due to fish until 8.30pm, it was dark at home by then I took note. -
20/08/2007 at 5:28 pm #62982
TF_poleanglerMatch won with 94lb, then 92lb then a couple of high 70’s.
Fished till 8.00pm otherwise would have been too dark. -
20/08/2007 at 5:42 pm #62983
TF_AlibongoParticipantPoleangler which gary is this? Is it my mentor on paste?
-
20/08/2007 at 8:01 pm #62984

TF_AlibongoParticipantTed Burkes you are an angling god!!!
-
21/08/2007 at 8:19 pm #62987
TF_poleanglerYes AL it is me going to have to stop trying to catch on the bomb its doing my head in.Back to the pole for me at least I’ll get some bites.
-
22/08/2007 at 5:33 pm #62988
TF_MatchcarpAre you lads fishing the open on Monday?
-
22/08/2007 at 5:53 pm #62989
TF_poleanglerYes probably be there should be a good turnout. Be interested to see what weights come out in the day time when a lot of regulars fish it.
-
22/08/2007 at 7:06 pm #62990
TF_AlibongoParticipantim gutted i cant make it. gary you still trying to get your head around that bomb fishin. have you got them pulling it off the rest yet? i was down for that 150 pegger the other friday for the Jacksons corporate day. i never had a bite on the bomb! i couldnt believe it! hope to get back down there soon. tell Nathan (pretty boy) watson i miss him. lol
-
23/08/2007 at 7:34 am #62991
TF_MatchcarpI can’t make it either ………. According to Ron there should quite a few there, he has 70 pegs so plenty of room.
-
23/08/2007 at 3:13 pm #62992
tournament_proMatch carp… have you got shares in the place or something??
it is good fishing especially in evenings.
However, if there was an open with every peg in then I would rather stay at home because some of you may as well not even go to your peg as you will be stuck in some horrendous corners or be blocked in.
Its good when theres not many on and you get plenty of space 🙂
-
23/08/2007 at 6:02 pm #62993
TF_MatchcarpI’ll tell you why I’m pushing it………
1, It’s a great place and full of proper fish ……..
2, There is no where else I know of locally where you can get a good commercial match since Woodlands went down the pan…….Did you know the pegging fee is roumered to be £12.00 next year, it’s £9.00 now………… I hope this place takes off.Like any venue if it is peg for peg it would be very hard for some………Sessay isn’t any different in that respect is it Andy?
-
23/08/2007 at 9:00 pm #62994
TF_poleanglerWell if every peg was in I’d go every week. There ain’t any matches that big anywhere 79 pegs
might be some bad’uns but the gamble would be worth it.
Any way there isn’t a venue any where that ain’t got a few bad pegs or corner pegs. -
24/08/2007 at 2:08 pm #62995
TF_MatchcarpDon’t forget the Open this coming Monday 27th ……..
-
24/08/2007 at 6:14 pm #62996
TF_MatchcarpDo you think it will be shallow day?
-
27/08/2007 at 9:57 pm #62997
TF_craigoFOA Neil
Cheers for your reply – glad you’ve sorted that one out, you know it makes sense to use the same ponds – you know I like Lindholme anyway, I’ll be back when time allows – had lots of clubbies and with holidays and stuff havent had chance to visit
cheers
