hello guys just wanted any advice on baits/methods etc on how to avoid carp!!!

ive got a non-carp match coming up next week on a local lake thats stuffed with skimmers and roach and errr CARP!

ive done a few sessions on there over the last few weeks with some success (60lb of bream/skimmers) and some not so good (3 lost rigs and 80lb of lumps)!!

anyway just wanted to know if anyone has any suggestions of groundbait the would attract skimmers and not so much the carpy things!!
ive tried sensas magic and thought id cracked it till i got carped out one one session!!!
the lake is around 12ft deep and it seems you have to bomb the bait down to the bottom or they come up in the water to the slightest cloud! resulting in liners etc
also feeding by pult is a real kiss of death cos the carp hear it from a mile away!

funny thing is if you actully fish for the carp with pellet and paste etc you get loads of skimmers as well as the carp!

        any ideas??

you have already cracked it mate
fish for the silvers and when it goes dead which usally indicates carp have moved in change lines it may mean that you will have to change lines a couple of times and rebuild the swim the secret is DO NOT feed more than one line just fish one till the carp show up then start another you will find that after building 2 or 3 swims and not feeding the oriiganal ones you can go back and rebuil that swim

keep firing pellets into your neighbours swim!

alternatively, you could keep a cloud up in the water to keep the carp there or feed a carp line (high fishmeal) to keep them away from the skimmers on a no fishmeal line. Obviously keep the carp line we fed.

Have you tried fishing shallow close in with chopped worm and caster? Carp will be reluctant to feed too shallow too close to the bank, say five metres, and you might catch the skimmers and roach quicker on this line too!
12ft of depth poses a few problems I must say 🙂

                            lewis.
That method is a killler at Woodlands Thirsk, but it takes some bottle to ignore the anglers on carp.
                            Regards Peter.
