        REPORT
Sunday 7 May saw the new season’s fixtures commence for Long Eaton Victoria Angling Society when 23 expectant anglers gathered on the banks of the Carr Wood Lake at Longford in bright sunshine.
For most, unfortunately, although the weather was pleasant except for the cool wind, sport was difficult with bites hard won, and as the results show the match was dominated by the pegs backing onto the access track, with 4 of the top five sitting in a row.
Brian Leafe got his season off to a flier with a clear win from peg 1 towards the lake end. He caught a few carp to around 7-00 out at 10m and then the bulk of his fish down the edge, with caster as the successful bait.
On peg 6, reigning Club Champion kicked off his defence of the title strongly with a weight of 35-10 of carp which he caught mostly from the edge, keeping fish interested by varying his bait, with Nigel Brailsford filling the third place with 32-04 of carp all taken on the method feeder fishing close to the island.
Chris Hales (30-00 from peg 7), Les Smedley (29-02 from peg 8) and Paul Marriott (27-08 from peg 15, who was the only angler in the top six from the other side of the lake.
The next LEVAS Championship match is at Blake Hall on the Blake Lake on 4 June, although members of Soldiers & Sailors (Sawley) AC can enjoy matches on Barkers Pond (14 May) and Aldercar Fishery on Acorn Lake (21 May) in the meanwhile.
