spoken to several match anglers about this weekends fishing and they all seem to have had a similar problem as i did in the match, i had fish in my swim most of the time but could not get a propper bite, most of the fish i caught were foul hooked in the fins or body. tried shallowing up, lighter rigs and different baits but still made no difference.
The bloke in the next peg lost more foul hooked fish than the rest of the match caught?
anyone got any thierys on why this happened on several lakes in the derby area?
i have put it down to bright weather and a falling pressure? am i right.

I suffered this two weeks ago on a works match a exactly what you have experienced carpus i put it down to the fact their just not feeding on heavily stocked waters they have to settle somewhere but theres no guarantees they will feed what is interesting though is i went on to fish a different line i had not fed and bagged 60lb of it, was this just luck ? or was feeding the kiss of death?

Carpus was you feeding with a cup or pot? Did you not try a straight lead over the top?

daiwadavid, i fed one line with meat lightly, and an other line heavy with maggot, both with a polepot.i had the same problem on both lines?
Anthonywalters may have something with starting a new line with no feed as JGG won the match by starting a new line up with 20 minutes to go and caught 4 carp off it.i had put this down to the fish just coming on the feed in the last 1/2 hour, but it could of been that they were backing off any feed that had beed put in?
this then makes be ask another question as to why they are backing away from the feed, if it was mid winter then i could understand it but at this time of year with warmish stable temps i would have thourght that they would have fed confidently?

Dave Pellet i have been to Sheffield and your right the hookers are foul (LOL)

Whereabouts was this Wayne? As I had a very similar problem on Clover lake on Saturday. Probably hooked enough fish to win comfortably, but over half were foul hookers. Couldn’t quite put my finger on what the problem was, apart from the fish not being on the bottom, but being over the feed.

I ve fished a few matches of late, and most anglers have had the same problem. I seem to of been able to completly avoid this on all those matches by feeding 95% hemp and only 5% hookbait samples and or no hook samples. Give it a go, or maybe i was just lucky on the day, but it seems to of worked on the last 6 or 7 matches ive been on.

Wish I had this problem, very nice to be in a peg solid with fish…….. I would be looking at my feeding if I were you……..Fish normally only pack in so tight if they are competing for food …… Spread or cut back your feed …….

If you’re allowed two hook rigs it can sometimes be worth trying. Bait the lower hook but leave the upper hook with no bait on, you chances of making a clean penetration on foul hookers is greatly increased..
