I’d help you out, but not on this site.

          Try http://www.allaboutangling.co.uk

I’m pretty sure it can’t be done, you need to strip the lot [rings and thread] re whip and then apply new hi build. Do a search on whipping a rod, its much easier than you might think and the end result will look great great when you’re finished.

plugcaster is right, but a tip to use on high build varnish is to heat it up. I do a lot of repairs in the shop and I’ve only just found out that if you heat the varnish for a short while, I use a hot air paint stripper, you can actually peel it off. Warning just a small amount of heat ie. a hair dryer is the best way to try it.
              hope this works

Allan, when you have a rod to re finish that has a coloured laquer on it and its not too badly damaged, try rubbing the blank down with very fine wire wool. Use the finest grade you can get then use some hi build rubbed thinly over the blank with a piece of kitchen roll and the rod comes up like new.
