greenhillParticipantHi all, just wondering if anyone makes there own boilies or not, or car,nt be bothered and simply buy off the shelf.
I took up carping last year, iv moved over to the dark side, im a ex match angler with my club.
I make my own boilies, as i personly think shop bought ones are expensive for what they are and for what you get.
If anyone does make there own, any chance of letting us no, and what have you best results on, i like good old tuttiefruitie, in red and yellow, and also lobster thermadore.
Iv had good results on the red tuttiefrutie at my club carp water.
Anyone willing to share how you make them ect, likewise ill explain how i make my and what i use.
Cheers all.. john~think ~think ~think

Im sure the big carp are put off by big round baits anything different is goin to be better…..I use a very basic mix and have had top results on it…..
plus its cheap like the budgy!!I do use to made boilies that are 10mm no bigger and are known proven winners……
and I get them cheap or Id make em myself…
I have a great girlfriend who likes me to help me make my bait spot on.!!!!!!!!!!

greenhillParticipantHi gouldycarp,
Yea i took carp fishing propley last season, bought some basic kit, couple of rods and reels, bag and bits , unhooking mat, and large landing net,and peices, all low bugdit kit, but does its job, in case i did,nt wont to carry on with carping, i could get rid, i love it , i still fish for the silvers, ect as river fishing is my number one passion, but more often than not carp fish, ..
I mainly fish our club carp lake, yes there some good fish in there, and plenty so a easy water, but good for trying different rigs, and baits.
My base mix for my boilies, i do two sorts of base mix,s and they are..8 oz of Powdered Semolina
4 oz of ground white rice
4 oz Soya flower..
or another one i use is 50 % Soya
and 50 % Semolina. For every one pound mix, use three medium eggs,
The first base mix,i mentiond, the one pound mix, i use three medium eggs, 5 ml of chosen colour, 5 ml of chosen flavour, and 2 ml of sweetner.Hears a bird mix boilie mix,
4 oz of Semolina
4 oz maiz meal,
4 0z ground up bird feed mix,
4 0z of soya flower
Again to this one pound mix three medium eggs. And for pongy, mingy fishy boilie mix..
4 oz fish meal,
6 oz semolina
6 oz Soya Flower,
one tin of pilchards in tom sauce,
30 ml of salmon oil,
this is a four egg mix.Just a few boilie mix,s and how i do my base mix, if anyone wonts to no how to get the base mix,s from , iether try morrisons for semolins powder, and ground white rice, also sainsbury,s do them, but the one you will find hard to track down is the Soya flower, if you struggling, i,v metioned on another post, try this site, it is,
http://www.wholefoodcoop.co.uk or if you have a local health food shop near you should stock the base mix ingridants.

greenhillParticipantNice fish gouldy, have it on a boilie you made, or another bait, iv been making some base powders up today and trying different additives to go with the base mix,s,
I,v been messing with betain pellets grindding them down and adding them, fishmeal,
I,m going to be making some chockie malt ones, and some cream flavoured ones over the next day or to, i,m geting the freezer restocked.
Again nice fish, i hopeing to beat my measly small fish, mirror, pb this year, it stands only at 13 lb 4 oz, that was on a tuttie frutie home made, pop up.

TF_D.W.The only baits I make myself nowadays are cork ball pop-ups (and even them the boilie paste is sent to me ready prepared so the only part I actually do is roll the baits & boil them). If I can get a major bait manufacturer (not a rolling service) to do all the hard work for me and to use the ingredients that would only cost me a fortune to buy in bulk, for a lot less than what the baits sell for in the shops, then I would be mad not to have them do it for me.

MarkeRused to do my own but fishing time is short so i buy mine rather than sacrifice time on the bank to make bait~think
if you have the time i reckon its worth making your own~clap -

greenhillParticipantIf your making just small batch,s up, thats from making your base mix and putting together eggs , flavours, colours and sweetners, to rolling them and boiling, to make this batch from start to finish, takes no more than a about half a hour.
You no whats going into them, you make them and talour to how you wont them.
The big plus catching fish on them the fact you,v made them, the effort is effortless realy, and it gives the satisfaction of catching fish on your home made baits gives you a extra buz.
But like whats said, if you dont simply dont have the time, to nock up you own baits, then it,s just as easy to pick a bag up and away you go and fish. -

TF_D.W.I just looked through the ingredients that you have listed Greenhill, and although they may be fine for a basic mix, they are not going to do the fish any good longterm. Too much Soya and Semolina is not nutrionally valuable to the fish at all.
A more rounded nutrional base mix is something along the lines of;
100g Casein.
100g Sodium Caseinate.
50g LT94 Fishmeal.
100g Soya Isolate
50g Robin Red
15ml Minamino/Multimino
1.5ml Nash Scopex No.1
3ml Nash Liquid Sweetener
4 Large Eggs. The Casien & Calcium Casienate are both water soluble and digestable to the Carp, and are high in Proteins.
