I don’t personally feel that flavours make much of a difference in all honesty. If they did, then plastic corn on it’s own or plain white bread wouldn’t produce as much as it does. A flavour really is only a signature and not really part nor parcel of how productive a bait really is.

D W, you say flavour has no realy part when it comes to catching carp with boilies.
Its half the story with carp, they have a brillant sense of smell and taste, also its a visal thing.
Thats why in the winter months they arn,t to fussed about eating, you put some bright coloured, fruity lets say boilie under there noses, they will investergate, they wont move far themselfs to find food, the bright colour and aroma given off by the boiie, is something they will have a nose at.
So personly i think its part and parcle with the carps sense,s when it comes to them searching and looking for grub, the visual appeal, and the smell, and finaly the taste??

If that is the case, then why are washed out baits or unflavoured baits still picked up over fresh ones? Believe it or not, most of the ‘names’ writing for the magazines don’t actually practise what they preach (I know this for 100% certainty due to being personal friends with a number of them).
Maggots have no real flavour to them yet they are readily picked up by the carp. Same with Casters. What about bread?
Don’t believe all that you read in the magazines as a lot of it is written to put anglers off the scent so to speak.
Pineapple as a flavour is not that attractive to the carp as it is the highly acidic nature of the flavour base rather than the flavour itself that causes any attraction. The same can be done by using neat citric acid instead. Carp are more likely to investigate slight changes in PH than they are the actual flavour.
I have caught more Carp on DARK unflavoured baits than the more traditionally used bright, fruity baits in Winter. Everybody else is using ‘what the mags are touting this month’ and not catching, yet I am and others that have actually listened to me.
The bait I generally use all year round has a very low flavour level to it, and is barely detectable to the human nose in an individual bait. It is also very dark as well. Probably the most successful bait of the past 5 years to those that have been using and has become available only this year to the general public (but it is NOT the same bait as what we have been using for the past 5 years). The general public ‘demand’ a flavour but it is not needed by any means.
Carry on by all means living by the ‘flavours’, I will carry on catching the fish that others aren’t by doing what I know actually makes a difference.

One thing I’ve learned over the years is Carp can’t read! 80% of what you read is based upon a single situation and not tried and tested method. How many times have you tried a catch fish anywhere bait or tactic and blanked. I personally agree with Darren, and trust me that’s a first LOL
