Is this rod and reel combo any good.

        http://www.tackle2u.com/prods/531.html

Was looking to get into a bit of specimen carp fishing as theres loads of waters around me that have big fish in and wanted a decent but cheapish kit to get me started.

Was also looking at a Fox Warrior ES and Stratos 10000 combo for £100

Which would be the better of the two or could anybody suggest any other rods and reels upto the value of £100ish

Stevie I would be more inclined to go for the Shimano combo of Rod and Baitrunner if I had the same budget!

ESP Paragon & Shimano BTR 8000 RE Ltd Edition would be the setup for around £100 per rod I would be more inclined to go for. The Paragon knocks spots off everything in the price range and performs like a significantly more expensive rod.

Cheers Darren. I will try to take a look at these.

Will also take a butches at the shimanos in my price bracket as pocket rocket has suggested.

Steve, the reel in the Shimano pack is the same reel I mentioned. The rod in the Shimano pack is not that bad, but the Paragon feels & performs like a rod costing twice as much. The Shimano package though is very good with line & ready sleeve included in the box as well. Only problem is that you are limited to one test curve in the Shimano pack (2.75lb) where as with the Paragon (which also has a full duplon handle that I personally prefer now) is available in both 2.75 & 3.25lb test curves (if you are intending to use large method feeders or want an all-round rod suitable for long range (120m approx) work the 3.25lb would be the one to go for). 3.25lb sounds excessive, but the action on the rod allows heavier casting weights to be used but still bends through the rod properly under pressure. I would have no qualms going down to a size 10 or 12 hook with the 3.25lb Paragon.
