A common skate which would have set a new Irish record has been caught and returned off Red Bay, Antrim.

Hans Dykman was fishing with Hamish Currie on ‘Predator II’ when he caught the fish, measuring 92 inches from nose to tail and 76 inches across its wings. That puts its’ estimated weight at 249lb.

A record will not be claimed as the fish was not weighed on dry land.

Angling TV channel OnlineFishing.tv has just returned from making a programme for its ‘Sea Watch UK’ series on the skate festival in Westport Ireland, which was one skate caught in the last 10 minutes!
