TF_hempseedThe Supercup draw has been made, so who your team drawn?
-
22/12/2009 at 12:08 pm #86543
TF_Jon WI have been informed we (Grebe AC) have drawn at home against JV Thorney although I haven’t seen the paper myself.
If it’s true, it’s going to be difficult for us as they have good some really good anglers amongst their ranks.

-
22/12/2009 at 6:57 pm #86568
TF_Kevin WTell me about it Jay P. I blanked too, on the high bank opposite. Wade’s won, if I recall, because my mate Lee Kendall caught one perch which hung itself while he was packing the rest of gear away.
We’ve got Grebe AC away. It’s my old club so should be interesting as some of my mates still fish for them. Looking forward to the banter already!

TF_mp.miloWhats the rules with this comp,i have heard through the grapevine about anglers fishing for sponsored teams, jacking in with said team, fishing the supercup and rejoining original sponsered team.
Is this the norm or just heresay ? There seems to be a lot of anglers that have a downer on this comp when you talk to them.

well mate being sponcered by a shop is different than being sponcered by a main manufacturer, thats why we have never taken main sponcership because of this event

TF_North EnderHere’s a question: Do you think it is morally wrong (or okay) to fish in the Supercup if you also fish for a team in the Angling Times Winter league and are potentially fishing for a team in the AT Winter league semis?

Do you fall foul of the sponsorship rules in the AT?
I’d check with AT first. We had the same problem a few years ago but our lads were allowed to fish. Ring Richard Grange.
-
15/01/2010 at 2:38 pm #88890
TF_North EnderThe reason I asked the question is that if, hypothetically, somebody were to fish in the Supercup competition for a club in the next couple of months and fish in the same period of time, in a competition such as the AT Winter League semis, would this not essentially make a mockery of the ‘clubman’ status of the Supercup competition?
If it is okay to do this, can’t any angler then fish in the Supercup, if the mood takes them.
And does this not devalue the Supercup competition and turn it into a joke?
Anglers generally fishing in AT winter leagues and in teams in AT Winter league semis etc, whether sponsored or not, would normally be classed as ‘open’ anglers or be rated as being of a standard above average ‘club’ anglers.
I know it will ruffle feathers, but it’s a question worth asking, as I feel that the rules governing the Supercup competition might be viewed in some quarters as being wide open to abuse.
-
15/01/2010 at 3:25 pm #88901
steveevans99Fair comment myself and lads i fish with none of us are or have been sponserd but i see your point to be honest it doesnt really bother us who fishes it we just enjoy the matches we have been to semis a couple of times but never the final. But we have never practised properly either we were in southern league but being from gloucester the semis were always miles away so we just tried on the day and failed lol we are now in the midlands so are semi would be moorlands a lot closer so if we are lucky enouth to get through we will practice and make a go of it.
-
15/01/2010 at 4:16 pm #88905
TF_hempseedwhat team that steveevans99 ? we crashed out last year (our first year) but we back for more!!

steveevans99babcocks ac mate weve been to colmans cottage year before last we were going to whiteacres same weekend lol so from glos to essex then to whiteacres lol also qualified when it was at willow park both venues a little far for us to practice.

15/01/2010 at 4:50 pm #88922
TF_respectA couple of years ago we, ST Anthonys AC entered the Lancashire A/T winter league (as a club team)we decide to do this because the league would of folded due to not enough teams entering that year,as a team we got well beaten every round, all the lads really enjoyed it though and found it improved their match angling no-end fishing against the cream of the north (Drennan north west,Saints, etc)
As a club we enjoyed every minute of the challenge facing us every round,we also had a good laugh along the way and met some good blokes who are now friends ~clap
Its not all about the winning when club fishing wether sponsored or not and if you stick to rules when entering a competition (supercup or otherwise) and enjoy the day for what it is then in my opinion you have done nothing wrong~clap
-
15/01/2010 at 5:14 pm #88930
TF_OggyWell said Pete.
If I had known the real identity of northender I wouldnt have got involved in the thread as it is obvious to me now that he is just stirring as usual.
This subject has been done to death ever since Darwin won the 2nd supercup with Barry Thomas in the team (Barry was captain of div 1 champs Southport). The AT have made previous decisions on the matter so thats that.
-
15/01/2010 at 9:12 pm #88983
TF_wayne2009i thought the rule was as long as you are not sponsored by a major tackle company you were eligable to fish, an if you are sponsored by your local shop that doesnt count as a major sponsor
-
15/01/2010 at 11:33 pm #89019
The Dangler paste virginStill hardly fair when you have working guys having to buy their own bait v others who get their bait free.We had this last year and just for chopped worm and caster the bait bill was £18 per man v nil cost as an example~naughty
-
15/01/2010 at 11:37 pm #89020
coxp001ParticipantI think the rule is:
You are not eligible if you are sponsored by any tackle or bait company. This does not include local tackle shops but does include companies like Sensas, VDE, Mosella etc. -
16/01/2010 at 12:52 am #89024
TF_wayne2009thats what i thought it was. £18 per man on worms an casters i hope you won i dont think ive ever spent that on worms an casters an if i have i have brought them home at the end you. where did u fish with all this bait
-
16/01/2010 at 1:32 am #89027
The Dangler paste virginI dropped out when i heard the bait bill at a team meeting fella i cant justify spending silly money on bait etc to fish to a team plan i worked out the cost of the one match all in would be about £50.I was very naive in my thinking beforehand i suppose? i just thought we would turn up and fish and give it our best shot on our home water fishing how we wanted to individually it was a real eye opener. The lads that fished never really enjoyed their day either(loads of backbiting and petty squabbles leading upto the day) i think they felt under real pressure and that went against them.I was even more gobsmacked when i heard we had entered again this year?I will offer to bankrun and try and help that way and give the lads a gee up instead.
-
16/01/2010 at 2:09 am #89031
TF_wayne2009sounds like they all take it too serious.
we won it this yr and the most bait i used on any match was 4 pints of maggots in the semi final on the oaks i was told to fish for barbel but ended up catching big carp on it which was nice an won me the section. i dont think ive ever used a kilo of worms an howevever many casters anywhere most places are pellets now adays. we used to travel for some matches an it started to cost upto £80 a match with bait an deisel started to become a joke so i know what you mean -
16/01/2010 at 6:53 am #89034
TF_DocAs a matter of interest … if you were the “home” team in this competition, in the first round, how far would you expect to reasonably travel …. likewise if you were one of the away teams, considering the cost of fuel, for what is a “clubman” competition, what is reasonable ?
200 miles round trip for the “home” team …. 500 for one of the away teams ??? Is this reasonable or in the spirit of the competition ?
6 or 7 gallons of petrol for the “home” team and 15 or more gallons for the away team~think ~think at a fiver a gallon ~naughty
What do those taking part in this competition who are complaining about having to spend £20 on worm and castor think about this ??
-
16/01/2010 at 7:54 am #89036
steveevans99The whole idea of a home draw means you pick a venue close to you that you may fish reguler dont see the point of a home draw then travelling miles lol you would just loose the advantage. I personaly havent met a team that takes us miles away from where there based.

As a matter of interest … if you were the “home” team in this competition, in the first round, how far would you expect to reasonably travel …. likewise if you were one of the away teams, considering the cost of fuel, for what is a “clubman” competition, what is reasonable ?
200 miles round trip for the “home” team …. 500 for one of the away teams ??? Is this reasonable or in the spirit of the competition ?
6 or 7 gallons of petrol for the “home” team and 15 or more gallons for the away team~think ~think at a fiver a gallon ~naughty
What do those taking part in this competition who are complaining about having to spend £20 on worm and castor think about this ??
I think 500 miles is a lot to be honest, but then again being based 100 miles away from your opponents doesn’t help either – not your teams fault obviously, as you know there is normally at least one other scottish team… To be fair to the home team they have chosen their home venue which just happens to be 80 miles away. I’ve sent you a PM.

TF_OggyI dont know the personal arrangements of the person in question but knowing the shop I would expect he would get no more than a 20% discount for non-shop-team related matches. For team matches where he is representing the shop I would expect a slightly better discount but not much.
I cant see how that can be a problem as I get about 15% off as a matter of course as I’ve used the same shop for 30 years. I’m sure most people get a few quid knocked off here and there which is much the same thing.

The Dangler paste virginOne of the Fellas from the winning side who had previously won the competion said to our bank runner his bait was free? Now he may have been joking or whatever but if i had of spent the £50 that would have been a right kick in the wotsits. The Club matches i fish are £10 all in and whatever bait i want to take and with petrol and breakfast i doubt it ever comes to over £25 so it would have been hard to justify spending double when ive got a young family.Like i say i thought of it has been a fun competition but when it isnt a level playing field as regards cost etc NO THANKS i dont wish to compete.

TF_Mikey .J.It’s quite simply really. If you dont like it, stop whinging and don’t fish it.
If some people wish to take it more serious than others then so be it. If some people get some free bait, well good on them!
I think you have to decide whether its worth fishing to you personally and not worry about what everyone else does or gets.

TF_North EnderI think the competition has evolved, not necessarily for the better, over the years and the general decline of open level match fishing is one of the factors, with more guys who were part of the open scene now fishing club-type matches.
Angling is expensive whichever way you look at it, but if the Supercup is supposed to be a competition for clubmen, then maybe AT need to revisit the rules/regulations and possibly think about another club competition for anglers who fish both club and open matches.
It is very difficult to achieve a level playing field, but a set of rules that are not open to personal interpretation might help. -

at the end of the day people who are sponsored by local shops dont really get anything anyway a bit of discount on tackle an probably a couple of pints of bait per week hardly alot, and if they say they get all this bait free there lying what small or large shop can give kilos of worms away and casters or even pellets get real people an stop moaning if you dont like to compete against these people dont fish
