TF_DishyfishHad the day off today and I dont know what come over me. I must be chuffing mad!! After finding my neoprene waders dug out some sticks and checked my reel for line damage last night. I woke up this Morning went to the tackle shop and purchased 4pts of whites and a sprinkling of reds. Got to the river and assembled a set up of a 5 no 4 stick 2.6 bayer (still IMO the best float line ever) 1.7 hooklink 18 Kamansan whisker barb with barb pinched down. Bait apron on and started to wade out. Belive it or not I was that not cold, and after about 40 mins of trotting and not a sign my float dipped a couple of times, and I came back with a chewed maggot. apart from my mate the other week I bet there as not been a soul on there. And to see a chewed maggot it sets your heart racing. Anyway to cut it short I had a great few hours, finished up with 30 dace two roach and a unseen which took me to the middle of the river and finally broke me. The dace varied from 4oz to maybe touching 8oz the roach were around the 10oz. A day I enjoyed a lot and it was great to fish a river again, a bit rusty but I will be doing more so It will come back. Putney near Fulham FC if any one intrested its more gravely that end, and a even slope. GET YOUR WADERS ON AND GET OUT THERE ~clap ~clap

TF_DishyfishBrian what can I say a lovely few hours of trotting a few fish and lovely scenery lol COYWhites!!!! My john Dean original sticks worked a treat. We use to run a few matches at Putney and Barnes with the likes of Darren Davies and Clive Gingel. What a Site that would be a line of blokes trotting and bagging. The trouble is Brian the parking, there is pay and display but alot of it is permit holders only. Its a shame because I did see one or two black death I still feel there is plenty of fish to catch I fished for about 4hrs in one swim even saw a few top when it started to back up.

TF_DishyfishMick It was a good few hours didn’t see many people just the odd one opposite, walking thru Bishops park. I fished there alot a few years back and there always seem to be a few fish!! So the black death have not got them all YET. My old ABU 506 was making a few grinding noises, so will have to replace that before I venture there again.. On another note there was not much wind yesterday but I belive its going to kick up, and going by past experience, standing in the Thames with a raw upstream or downstream wind is not very pleasent.
Check the tides and if any of you decide to go have a good day. The more it gets fished the more the fish will get used to bait going in. It took say 30mins 40mins to get a sign.

TF_GarySounds good, chaps. If you are fishing down there this weekend I might pop down for a look. I can probably convince the bird to head to Putney for a bit of shopping. Little will she know that I am planning to nip off to watch some crack-pots stood in the Thames flinging maggots and trotting a stick… mwah-hahahaha!!!
(Incidentally, before I offend anyone, ‘crack-pots’ is meant in this context as a term of endearment!)

TF_pr@nglerThis takes me back. I learned to fish a stick float on the tidal and have had some great days down there. Have fished between Richmond and Bermondsey. A favourite spot used to be that beach below the National Film Theatre, just upstream of Waterloo Bridge. Short sessions there though as you had to wait for the tide to drop a bit.
About 1990 the fishing really died down there and I stopped going. Really pleased to hear its bounced back.

12/01/2010 at 11:10 pm #88351
TF_DishyfishWell what I can make out if we get to Putney at 7.30 we should get 4hrs poss 5hrs fishing. Its not a favourable time ie a bit early, but its all we got. That includes a bit of fishing when its starts to come in. Put it this way we will be home for lunch.. My only concern would be the snow water coming in from further up.
Let me know what you want to do maybe the following sunday is more favourable for a knock up.

TF_DishyfishEvening crew its looks like a a few of you fancy it Sunday. First thing! Simon post code SW15 ILB Lower Richmond Road then turn onto the river by the Tai square. Drive as far as you can and park where there is no resident parking, other wise all free then its just a short walk past the foundry brook and we’ll go from there.
Yorkshire I think I hooked one of them last time! took me to the middle and broke me. Oh p.s Carp dont count Sunday lol.
So its looks like we have to be there at 7.30 tackle up and fish. So do what I did have the rod rigged up ready to go, bait in apron warm clothing job done and hopefully a few fish. So can we start a list of yes or no or maybe cheers Del.

TF_Spuds1My old dad used to take me anywhere from Richmond at the Ice rink or the three pigeons down to Ham when I was a kid , never been down as far as Putney wich in my book is probably as far into Central london other than Camden( druggie central) that you can still catch coarse fish .
I use to love this type of fishing , stick float running down with just a bait apron on and a few pints of maggots / hemp .
The feel of hitting a big herring dace and watching your rod tip dance around has in my book never ever been beaten in terms of course fishing .
I still have some old John Dean wire stems in the gagrge but alas I sold my 13ft Normark spliced tip and ABU 501 years and years ago .
I for one would give up commercial fishing in a flash if regular matches and 30Lb of Dace in the winter time was thrown up but alas I am certain that those days would never ever return
Guys I would love it if you could get a few snaps over the weekend and post them up .

14/01/2010 at 9:10 pm #88803
TF_DishyfishOkay this is how its stand!! When I fished there last I walked over Putney Bridge saw it was just starting to go out. Legged it to the shop got my bits and fished. Now Im trying to sort out the tides for Sunday phoning people in the know, and even ended up phoning port of London (enquiries) and im getting so many conflicting times.
Even spoke to Brian and called it off!! Here’s the upshot my uncle and the great Clive Gingel think I was right the first time. So Clive is going to drive over it tomorrow and see where we stand. Sorry to mess you guys about, if only it was not tidal be alot more straight forward.
So if you can hang on a little bit longer and I will get back to you. We will probably lose a few who were intrested, but we will arrange another time. I know the potential and if there is only a couple of us this time, and the tide turns out right I will be there.
The time of year doesn’t help with not many day light hours, so makes it sorting tides harder if you cant fish in to the evening. So you boys might think I cant organise a p@@@ up in brewery but we will sort it some how.. I cant belive how many different tide times I have been told. I just want to fish!!!

TF_DishyfishBrian Im getting your bait Im going by my what I first thought. Its okay for us we dont come far and Im dam sure im right anyway. Mr pavey Andy ect I will finalised for you tomorrow, I dont want you having a wasted journey by me getting it wrong. We still have time for all to get bait ect, but maybe might be cutting it fine for those who want to book on else where. Hopefully will see you all Sunday fingers crossed. Weather rubbish for Saturday heavy rain and strong winds! Sunday dry sunny light winds.

15/01/2010 at 6:18 pm #88936
TF_DishyfishOkay this is it I cant make it this Sunday due to matters out of my hand. If any one else still wants to go, if you get there at 7.30 your be okay with the tide, and should have a few hours. Failing that Sunday 24th Jan 9.30 draw at Putney. Its also a more approopirate time for everyone.. Tide should be just right and again we will get a few hours. So for those who can get out this Weekend have a good one. Mr pavey Ding Dong Bookie Brian Sponge see you next week if your not back on the commies lol..
