yeah, it’s a shame, enjoyed it.

anyone know how the cuts will impact on the various British Waterways venues regarding matches/ bailifs/ maintenance.

We enjoy fishing Blythe and hope it won’t change anything regarding the opens?

is this true, i thought it was a well organised competition, a great shame to lose it especially as it must of nigh on paid for itself. I would rather hope to have this comfirmed by a proper announcement in the angling press

Mark, it looks definate there is a quote from Carl (B.W organiser) on the UK Matchangler site.

I really enjoyed these matches, was always a great atmosphere, and even anglers on a waiting list to fish last years events, so the demand is there…

May be a tackle or bait company could step in, and resurrect it ??

Or even change the format, by running it as a series “King Of Reservoirs” with sections of 10 and section points.

There is Earlswood, Drayton, Stockton, Boddington, and Clattercote all in close proximity. Plus there is a lot of people that specialise in this style of fishing.

                Only an idea……..

hi andy, how you doing? yes its a very popular comp and could do with like you say bait or tackle company taking over the reigns.Again like you say with so many similar good venues in near vasinity .. come on lads lets have some more feedback to keep this competition going

hi andy. Happy new year. To be honest im suprised by this considering part of bwb revenue is anglers. I would of thought the publicity and filling their pegs would have been good for them. Ijust think its a pretty poor show for what was a great competition that was well supported by anglers.

I agree with you 100 % Coxy and i believe that this competition was paid for entirely by the anglers who entered it..It also generated a bit of revenue for BW based on £7 a peg per angler.
I guess it would be an ideal competition for an experienced organisor to take on and whoever that person might be could take a percentage out of the peg fees to cover costs, time and effort.
The competition is popular enough that BW would be fools to turn down any requests for someone else to take it on imo.

But do you not think that this may be a case of BWB having there cake and eating it. Someone else organises the matches and BWB pocket the peg fees. They have no outlay, they reap the profits off somebody elses effort. Yes the organiser can make some money but often in angling this is not the case. Look at the likes of the guys that organise our local winter leagues (meadowlands, makins) they are not fishery owners, they do it for the fun of it.

Yes Ian i see your point but if we lose this competition entirely then its the anglers that miss out at the end of the day..I dont mind if BW sit back and pocket some money on the peg fees whilst someone else does all the organising as this is what BW are all about anyway. They provide a service in that they provide fisheries for us to fish at,all i would be concerned with is that BW ensure that some of the money made from peg fees is ploughed back into the fisheries ensuring that they are maintained to a high standard for the anglers.

Good point Gaz, I just do not like this style of management. I agree that we need this competition, i think it adds to the angling calender in a very positive way. It would be nice if a company like Dynamite Baits could take it on but with there involvement i do not see that as possible. Once again i reckon it will be down to someone that does it for the fun of it. I just think it is a shame and to be honest im gutted about it.
