I think most of us are still waiting for the ice to go.

I have been told of a problem on one of my local commercials (unconfirmed). Im also worried about another local commercial that is still shut. I was allowed to break the ice to fish only a few wees ago. So it seems strange to have it closed now. The only confirmed problem i have seen is on Walton Hall Park lake in Liverpool that had a big fish loss. However, that lake was very shallow (2ft). I think it will be a few more days before we know what has happened. However, we might never get to know the whole truth if commercial fishery managers hide fish losses from the anglers.

Like Trueblue said i don’t think we’ll get to know that much about the fish losses, they don’t want it advertising that they’ve lost fish.

Was the ice broken at all?

Deep silt! That is what would have been giving off the gasses, its a shame it didnt get broken daily after that first week.

I hope there is none on the botom too!

Yup the silt is the killer. Its causing arguments in our club because were trying to get them to desilt it. But a lot of them dont have a clue and think it isnt needed!

Plenty of fish on the bottom too Nigel i’m afraid to say. They were such good fish. It was once one of the finest fisheries in the North West and now it’s a fish graveyard :-(. No more summer paste fishing for me on there doh.

Indeed a shame to read. But not a surprise that fisheries with such a lot of silt and little intervention have suffered.

Although I am not a carp head and prefer my silvers I do feel for your loss.

Far too many places think they can stuff fish into a small space and leave nature to it…in your case nature has bitten back and thinned out your stock. Maybe it’s the wake up call your fishery has needed.

Wayne 4000lb of fish in one day are you sure ? Im not doubting you but thats alot of fish why didnt somebody intervene ?Smash the ice keep things ticking ? Thats 30k in fish !

Luckily no dead fish in the two club waters I fish. Both are years old with at least a foot of silt. Mixed fisheries, one is 5 acres the other 1.5 acres. Both are stream fed and both were flowing well during the big freeze, maybe that helped with the lack of ‘gas’ build up. We will be using Siltex or similar in April for sure. For anyone that has lost fish I’m gutted for you.

500 fish we took out today and they averaged a good 8lb. Some to 20lb plus. Loads of nice bream on top of that, roach, perch etc. We did break the ice, probably before 99% of other waters. I was the frist to put a thread on here telling people to break the ice when we did. Sadly our silt levels i think caused the damaged in the first week or two of being frozen.
