        Hi,

Im after a little bit of info.

Up untill now i have been buying ready tied hair rigs, but i have felt the need to tye my own hook lenghts.

I have chosen nash armourbraid on a recomendation from the guy in my local tackle shop. i have tried to tye some hair rigs up ready before i go out again and am having a little trouble.

My issue is i pass the braid thru the eye of the hook and then wrap around shank and then am unable to pass the braid back thru the eye of the hook as the eye is too small for the braid to pass thru it twice?

I know how to tie the knotless knot that isnt the issue its the size of the eye on the hook.

Should i buy a certain type of hook to tie my own hair rigs.

The hooks i have are size 8 or 6 drennan hooks of some kind.

Any help would be much appreciated.

        Dan

Armourbraid is well over the top unless you are fishing a very snaggy water or the potential to hook a catfish.
The problem is that the hook size is too small for the diameter of the braid. Armourbraid is fairly stiff and waxy, and will go back through the eye of most hooks no problems (I use it a lot myself in 25lb). The heavier the braid, the larger the hook needs to be to balance the tackle out.
For the majority of carp anglers, Nash UltraSilk is a much better choice, and can easily be used in 20lb through size 10 hooks knotless style.
It is always easier as well if a decent pair of braid scissors are used to cut the end (and by decent I don’t mean any of the cheaper ones that various companies sell as being sufficient as they are not after a couple of uses). The only braid scissors I have used that are any good are the Owner ones (which are around £12 a pair but worth every penny).

ok brilliant, thanks for your advice.

I will most definately invest in some good scissors.

Just out of interest what hooks, size/brand do you use?

            Thanks again for your help.
