TF_red_anglerAre all the fisheries going to be thawed out by weekend? Anybody been to have a look at their local fishery?
Im hoping to be on Heronbrook this sunday but they dont allow any ice breaking.
If its not thawed will be back at Cudmore. -

AnonymousI wouldn’t go anywhere this week without an ice breaker for sure most places will still have an inch or so of ice even if it stays like this

TF_macca63I had a text off my mate this afternoon, my local club lake still has a two and a half inch layer of ice on it so its still got some way to go before it thaws totally.

TF_DodgeVery sad news that Wayne. Thems carp have been in there for years and survived all sorts of crap …. like you mate i think plenty of commie owners in the NW are in for a big shock when the ice finally thaws !
Still 3″ of ice on the Bridgy in most places!

TF_leemurphSpoke to a mate of mine last night who spoke to neil at h/brook he said that half of meadow is free but the other half has 4-5″ still on it. So the league will be off i’d of thought, and i presume the other pools will be iced up as well. Not good.

TF_Mikey .J.I was sat in a boat Roger with dead carp upto my knees, its disgusting and there’s still hundreds more dead fish to be taken out yet. We also found some huge dead perch to 3lb :-(.

TF_LiquidizedHi Wayne
Have you had the fish tested to see what caused thier deaths?
I’m sorry to hear of the loss, but I’d have it checked out to find the cause
I have not heard of anywhere else that has had the same problem because of the iceMartyn

TF_Mikey .J.No we havent but we knew this was going to be the case when the ice thawed out. We reacted too slowly im afraid, the ice had covered the pond for weeks and weeks and the fish were already gasping by the time we broke it.. Our pond is FULL of silt. Combine that with ice over the top for weeks = disaster. Our pond needs desilting and has done for years. But our club is very badly run and know very little about running a fishery. They are murdering our fish in my opinion. I reckon we have over 800 dead carp (they were in fantastic condition too), and endless amounts of other fish dead :-(.

TF_leemurphI doubt very much that this weeks individual league will be on. The whole complex will have to be free cos there is 110 booked on which means more or less every peg free of ice (ie peg one miss one which is the norm) and if there is still 4″ on meadow then that will take some thawing out. He might run an open on the pegs that are free but best bet would be to ring him up.

TF_red_anglerspoke to Neil from Heronbrook this morning & he’s going to make a decision tomorrow, he hadnt been there since Thursday, but said there wasnt enough free pegs then, its looking douptful.
Cudmore have an open both days, suez on sat, then New pools & suez on sunday, they siad newpools were 3/4’s thawed. -

TF_GALPSFished my 1st open match of 2010 yesterday at Candy Corner nr Doncaster.
over 80% of the lake has thawed, albeit i can now see a good 3 foot down into the water it is that clear.
It didnt deter sport though with 36lb winning it and my 31lb coming second!
GALPS.

TF_Mikey .J.We did break the ice weeks ago mate. Some of us with axes and waders and we even got a JCB. It was just too little too late. And we were some of the first to break ice! We even made it onto the second page of the AT lol. Sadly im now spending my Saturday taking out another 1000-2000lbs worth of dead fish on top of what we’ve already taken out. At 23 i dont picture my weekends in a boat knee deep in dead fish covered in fish slime an blood. Its heart breaking and very smelly.

TF_Mikey .J.Aye i know mate, shit happens.
Those who chose not to break the ice out of sheer stupidity, deserve to be out of pocket. At least if we get a winter like this again next year we’ll be ready for it. Thats if we have a fishery left. Doh.
