PACKINGTON TROUT FISHERY
FISHERY REPORT – WEEK ENDING 24/1/10
Trout fishing in the Midlands
Last week there were 84 rods who caught 207 fish for an average of 2.46.
The fishery has at last defrosted with the ice completely gone at the weekend. Before that there was limited fishing on small areas of Cocks Close but those that fished caught well. Once it thawed the fished moved out to the middle so boat anglers enjoyed the best of the action at the weekend.
The biggest fish of the week was an estimated 15lb rainbow caught and released by Mr G Owen who was fishing from a boat on Cocks Close and he took it on a white Lure. Mark Sturgess of Nuneaton caught a 10lb 9oz rainbow (see attached picture) again from a boat on Cocks Close and this was the best of a 5 fish limit, all taken on Bloodworm pattern fished under an indicator.
On the members’ waters, Park Meadow is the top pool with Great Pool and Hall Pool a little coloured due to the heavy rain after the thaw. On Park Meadow, Sean Lacey and Ian Laws of Nuneaton both caught five fish up to 4½lb with small Lures taking all of their fish.
Best tactics have been to fish white or black Lures on an intermediate line and a slow retrieve. Cats Whisker, black Tadpole, Fritz Lures, Appetizer, Dog Nobbler and Viva have all accounted for a few fish this week.
The high bank and old boat jetty area have been the hotspots on Cocks Close.
