PACKINGTON SOMERS FISHERYSENSAS WINTER LEAGUE – ROUND 5
All but three of the 36 competitors caught in the latest round of the Sensas Winter League which given that the pools were still frozen on Friday was amazing. Little Gearys provided the best sport with the top five anglers coming from there and Lee Richards of Top Fours produced a class performance to smash the match. Lee caught lots of small skimmers and a few bonus F1’s in the 2 – 3lb bracket on pole and pellet fished at 18 metres on peg 28. Runner up Derek Hartshorne fished on peg 14 on Little Gearys and caught a mixture of small F1’s and skimmers on pole fished chopped worm and caster. Best weight on Gearys was 11lb 11oz caught by Lanes Baits Ron Savage who had a tench and skimmers on pole and caster from peg 27.REPORT
MOLANDS Fishing was available on all of the pools for the first time in 5 weeks from Friday and over the weekend the pool has fished reasonably well. F1’s in the ½lb 1lb bracket have featured well along with a few skimmers, roach and the odd carp. Pole fished pellet, caster or maggot has been the best tactic with pegs 31 – 36 and 48 – 54 the best areas.
GEARYS The weekend saw a match each day with low weights on both days but fish were caught on all pegs. Skimmers and roach provided the best action with ground bait feeder and caster or pole fished caster or pellet the best approach.
LITTLE GEARYS After breaking the ice in the week the fishing was very patchy but as it cleared at the weekend sport improved. F1’s fed really well around most of the pool and pole fished pellet, worm, caster or maggot is the best tactic.
WILLOW Anglers have enjoyed good sport on Willow with skimmers and roach on all pegs and carp or F1’s showing on the feature pegs, 1, 5, 6 & 13. Caster or small expanders fished at 10 – 12 metres has provided nets of silvers to 15lb in matches.
