Yes, welcome to the site Phil. There are loads of knowledgeable people on here who will let you know how to fish your local canal if you let them know what it is. What I would say though is if you can go with someone who is experienced on the water you will save hours of wasted outings trying to figure it out for yourself. Very few of us on here really taught ourselves. Either we had family who fished or mates who did. We relied on them largely to get us started down the right path.

You wouldn’t take up golf without visiting a golf pro would you?

Firstly, i wouldent say to anyone to start fishing on a canal, they are hard for the experiancened angler.
Find somwhere that has loads of fish, and wait a few weeks untill its a bit warmer, and then when you catch some fish, you will love it, if you dont catch, you can soon get fed up.

Have a look at Barston, just 3 miles from the NEC, the match pool here is fishing well, its like a canal, but with plenty of fish.

Come over, ask for me, i will get you a coffy, and come and help you out, and wont even charge you, how’s that for an offer!
