wswannellFirst of all hi everybody, i’ve been reading this forum for a few months now and finally thought it was about time i said hello
My name is Wayne (38 yrs young)
I returned to fishing a few months back after a break of about 15 yrs (how things have changed)
I used to be a keen match angler and this is the scene i want to return to very soon (just need to brush up on my skills first)I am looking to purchase a new pole (16m)
2 poles have caught my eye, MAP TKS40 & Daiwa SR4 (both come with excellent spares package)
Can anybody recommend any of these poles or an alternative for a max £1000I’ll mainly be tackling the commercials but occasionally my local River Nene aswell
Thanks fellas

TF_Team RattlerI was told in a shop by a lad who’s got a TKS40 that they’ve changed the grade of carbon in it since he bought his and it isn’t as good.

TF_Johnny MacWelcome to the site mate.
Buying a pole is a very personal thing, what someone may recommend as being ‘the best around’ may not feel right to you or suit your style of fishing. Try and have a waggle of a few before you buy.

I get what you are saying there JM
I had some good results in the past with an old Maver 11m pole and people used to say “how can you use that?”
But it took a few quid off of them so I had the last laugh ~naughty -

TF_poleanglerHi Mate,
Take a look at Angling Direct link on left side of page here.
They are selling off Garbolino G995’s for £999.00 & Super Legion’s too for same price look on clearance page 3.
Both might not be this years models but they are better than any £1,000 you can buy at the minute, packages are good too. -

TF_macky1I had a TKS40 for 9 months now, really cant fault it, its light to hold allday long, stiff and handles carp into double figs no prob at all, and the spares package are great
(dont think u get as many spares with the new models tho) -

THE ORICALA lot of the post are refering to discontinued poles ,(TKS 40 ,super leigion, g995 and the Sr4 is arguabley the same pole as a TKS 40).The Gmax 700 is a great pole , other options from MAP are the new TKS 525,( stunning for the money £799,you will find this cheaper, shop around. You can pick up a new Daiwa G20 for just over a grand. Discontinued poles are ok but spares prices will go up in price at a faster rate than current modles, tred carefuly!

TF_MarkTYeah check out the new tks range 525/625/725, the tks525 is a newer version of the tks40 and is miles better.
If i was you i wouldn’t even think about buying a g995 or super legion these poles are 3 to 5 years old, you can get a garbolino g8 for about £1200 now maybe even cheaper and thats a new version of the super legion.

TF_baitchefParticipantPersonally I would go down the second hand market. Fact is the only poles that can be comfortably fished at full length are the top end models. In truth, in my experience, most anglers hardly ever get the 16m section out and most of the time it spends its life as a top kit tube!! Therefor I would look to buy 2 poles. I would probably go down the cheap and cheerful carp pole route for the commercials as most current poles are pretty similar at 13m and during the warmer months depending where you live, 13m is often adequate. For the rivers I would look for a second hand Speccy mk II. You will appreciate it on the river and it will handle light commercial work. Its still a current model and so spares will not be an issue, its a bit of a specialist pole in today’s market, but there is a small demand so it should hold its value fairly well.

Anonymoustake you’re time and have a waggle of as many poles in you’re price bracket, and if you’re on the bank and you see some one with one ask about it..he might even let you have a go…ooh err
