Its not about winning trophies, Tevez, like most footballers would play for York if they paid more than city. Look at Portsmouth, all that “investment” in the team, one FA cup win, bust club. Palace bust despite halving their wage bill to only £6m

Football finance is more precarious than the banks were in 2008 and I dont think anyone will be bailing foolish football clubs out.

I completely agree. The game of football is bust. All of the money that has gone into the game over the last 15 years has gone out through players wages and agents fees. I cannot believe that this is sustainable.

To be fair though, I have been saying this for about 5 years and the bubble just seems to get bigger and bigger and bigger….. when (not if) it bursts, it is going to leave an almighty mess.

There is not quite the systemic risk that their is in the banking sector, but if one club goes bust whilst it owes another club money, then you can get a ‘house of cards’ affect. I suspect, however, that most clubs’ biggest creditor is the tax man. See how he has pounced on them all in the January transfer window so that they can sell players to pay him off (Cardiff, Palace, Portsmouth…)?

Incidentally, I am not a Man U fan (not by a long stretch), but the Wayne Rooney/ white Pele chant is one of the best I have heard in ages! And it is suitable for the family enclosure!
