theres a thread on another forum regarding presentation, now in my eyes it’s a bit more important than feeding as if your bait don’t act like your feed then you won’t catch much at all,you could feed your peg perfectly and have awefull presentation and you would probably only get lines and foul hookers, what are others thoughts on this??

As long as your presentation is half decent i can’t help but feel that feeding is the most crucial element to a winning performance.

A double edged sword if you dont know how to tie a properly presented rig for the situation then theres a likely hood you will know jack shit about feeding ?

Correct feeding is the most critical part of getting the best from any peg and can be the difference between catching or not catching in difficult conditions or where there are very few fish to be caught. It can also be the difference between catching a few fish or bagging up and giving yourself every chance of winning in a match situation. Get the feed right and in many cases you will catch some fish even with a badly constructed rig. However, if you manage to fine tune your rig to the conditions in your swim and the type and size of fish and baits being used. Then your well on your way to winning your match or at least getting the best from your swim. The sad part about most magazine articules and threads on forums like this. Is that basic ideas behind feeding patterns are hardly ever discussed in depth. Its always rigs and baits or methods that are discussed instead of probably the most important part in getting the best from your fishing at any time of year or on any type of water.

I also get annoyed with magazine articles! They explain everything apart from feeding, it does my head in!

i think really on the whole the feeding is more important.
after all you can’t screw your peg with a bad rig but you can very easily with poor feeding.

I think people miss the point with feeding and rely too much on presentation.. Some anglers fish ridiculously light and then get seen off with anything proper. I use doubled over .12mm diam and double bulk shot the rig with number 8 shot a few inches from the hook. Crude as fcuk but my method of feeding gets so many fish competing for the feed that they lose their caution if they they ever had any.

Like Ive always said, fish do not know what hooks look like so theres no point in fish too small. They know what hooks taste like so you need to alter the rig to capitalise on bite detection and seeing the bait being sucked in instead of seeing it spat out. When i see people balling their peg it just goes against everything we know about feeding.. and where everyone does it in a line..good pegs are always end pegs..Presentation means nothing as with most set ups you seldom know what is going on with the hook bait because they have been designed for cosmetic purposes that most fish dont share. Feeding is the most difficult thing to learn.. rig making you can learn in a few minutes
